Boehner: Clinton needs to bring Democrats along on trade

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner says Hillary Rodham Clinton needs to back trade legislation that President Barack Obama wants — and help get Democrats on board.

Boehner says Republican votes alone aren't enough to give Obama the negotiating authority to complete an Asia-Pacific trade deal. He tells NBC's "Meet the Press" that Obama "needs her help" and Clinton should be more involved.

Boehner says Clinton "can't sit on the sidelines and let the president swing in the wind."

FULL short story at link.

You heartless assholes!" and, my favorite by a hair - "Hillary did NOT help write the TPP or talk it up! And if she did, it was only because she was Obama's unwilling puppet!"

This is what Washington's idea of buy-partisanship is - and it ain't pretty.

Ooops! I forgot - "Yeah, there are corporate lawsuits to overturn laws and regulations that affect corporate profits, held in secret, and not being subject to appeal - but Hey! we have not lost one of those YET!".

Some implicitly trust Obama, which is foolish. Others clearly use those who implicitly trust Obama to their advantage... it's rather fascinating (and frustrating) to watch.

Boehner and Obama on the same side. No thanks.

The unwilling puppet could have stepped down on principle, eh? But that's taking too strong a stand...

Yuk, - bleached shrimp, gassed meat, ammonia laced ground meats, poison drenched vegetables, hormone injected milk and meats - I think I'm going to be sick.

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/consumers-eating-feces-tainted-shrimp-fish-seafood-asia/story?id=17491264

The November issue of Bloomberg Markets magazine, in a piece on food poisoning and safety, says that it is common practice in some parts of Asia to feed fish pig waste. It describes, for example, the sanitary conditions at a fish factory on the southern coast of Vietnam. "Flies," it says, "crawl over baskets of processed shrimp."
The shrimp at some plants are packed in ice. That's good. What's bad: it's ice made from water often found to be contaminated with bacteria and unfit for human consumption, say Bloomberg's reporters in Hanoi.
Vietnam ships 100 million pounds of shrimp a year to the U.S., about 8 percent of the shrimp sold in America.

Reuters says the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June recommended removal from the U.S. market of South Korean shellfish, including clams and mussels, because, said the agency, the fish might have been exposed to human fecal waste or otherwise contaminated. At least 4 U.S. consumers have become ill after eating South Korean seafood, said the FDA.

Outside Hong Kong, at a tilapia farm, fish are fed a diet that includes pig and geese feces. That practice, Michael Doyle tells Bloomberg Markets, is unsafe for U.S. consumers, because the manure may be contaminated with salmonella. Doyle is director of the Center for Food Safety at the University of Georgia. Fish farmers, he says, use fecal matter as a cheaper alternative to commercial fish food.

The FDA inspects food shipments to the United States, including seafood shipments, but the agency's resources are limited, says Bloomberg's report. It is able to inspect fewer than 3 percent of shipments. Of that, reports Bloomberg, much is sent back. The FDA has rejected 1,380 shipments of Vietnamese seafood since 2007, finding filth and salmonella.

I understand that having such high standards for imported foods may be illegal under the TPP/TTIP, as would be banning GMOs or requiring labeling. Because profits.

And I feel I have a right to know NOW, before Fast Track means I can only read it and weep.
Other countries are protesting the TPP/TTIP, by the way, not just us "Obama-haters." FFS.

I'm here almost every day and I've never seen a post anywhere near what you are claiming. No Dem, except the ones who are 100% sold out like DiF, wants American jobs to go overseas. In fact, it's the Obamabots that are always saying TPP isn't bad, our super awesome president supports it, so sending out jobs and selling out our climate laws must be a good thing. He's the one pushing this, not HRC. Quit with the bait and switch, it's just not true and you damn well know it.

9. Hey Bone Head
Sun May 3, 2015, 09:49 AM
May 2015

why don't you ask for some advice from Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown, Elizabeth Warren, Alan Grayson and the progressive Congressional Democratic Caucus, what they think of the trade bill.

All three say its really bad.
Have you even seen the Trade Treachery.com piece by Grayson----
Why should I have 1/7 of this country assets being sold to entities that are sucking the very life blood out of the population / country for greed and not give anything in return---no jobs.
Why should I have a hidden cost of $35,000 dollars being placed on me and my family because some corrupt politician like yourself (lets all go back now and take note of you--- bucko---- the orange face, golf playing, wine drinking hypocrite----taking 200+ days off in the 113th Congress---- making $224,000 a year doing nothing , except handing out checks from the tobacco lobby on the house floor in 1996 to the other corrupt politicians).

Hey, Boehner, did you not see or understand that Sanders is running against your political corruption on trade, you know the thing called TPP (Toilet Paper for People) to use.
He is running to be our next progressive president or is this a news flash---zippy ---here's, Johnny, where my golf shoes.

As for Warren---why do you think she said she read the deal and it basically sucks, and it gives the oligarchy a means to attack the sovereignty of the country at the state, federal and local level by a panel made up of judges that in the back pocket of the oligarchy.
And just a reminder, Sherrod Brown was given twelve minutes notice in the Finance committee by Orrin (right wing republican Hatch) and then cut off from debate when he and Warren said they want this information to be seen by the public------nope ----not under your republican caucus, you don't need any transparency---your the party of greed and corporations

And now you have issues because you need help from Democrats on this TPP---don't think so bucko-------- pull a rabbit out of the hat, you might get better results.

And what is really remarkable the public gets more right wing babble from the supposed transparent news organizations like Face the Nation, Meet the Press, ect...... and the question was asked:

Question:Why do you always have republicans on your shows
Answer: Because they are in power
Questions: Why do you have republicans on your shows when they are not in power
Answer: Because they are the minority

And for the record isn't Toodle's (Chuck Todd) just a talking point mouth piece of the right wing oligarchy called GE/Comcast, who supports this deal of corruption, just imagine them being a judge on sovereignty of patents.

NO Johnny, should be your answer on the trade deal called TPP

"I certainly hope and expect he will help us move this bill forward on behalf of American workers," he added. "Otherwise, all the talk about a year of action would appear just to be another broken promise."

Sanders is against the TPP, and for good reason. Most American citizens are, also, when they find out what's in it (or, more particularly, when they find out that they can't even see what's in it). Boehner's putting HRC on the spot regarding her support for a publicly unpopular initiative that her (currently) sole primary challenger is against.

Of course she can't do anything about the status of the treaty. This is an impressively subtle (for the modern Republican party) attempt at attacking her where she is weak among progressives.

Only one problem - I don't think he realizes just how formidable Bernie Sanders will be...

It shows that WE are winning the war against corporate sponsored free trade.
Republicans, especially, in blue states or districts don't want to be alone on voting for this horrible blil. They need enough Democrats to be able to blame when more American jobs leave our shores and not enough low wage jobs are created in kind.
