DSCC Announces Endorsement Of Patrick Murphy In Florida Senate Race
Source: Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
May 04 2015
Senator Jon Tester, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued the following statement announcing the committees support of Patrick Murphy in Florida:
Patrick Murphy is one of our partys most promising rising stars, and his track record of fighting for Floridas working families, seniors, and the environment make him the strongest candidate to win the Florida Senate race and flip this seat. During his time in the House, Patrick has stepped up to protect the Florida Everglades, voted down extreme proposals that would harm Medicare, voted to protect Social Security and fought to ensure that working families are given a fair chance to get ahead. I am confident that Patrick will continue working hard for all Floridians following his successful election to the Senate and we are proud to support his campaign.

(14,255 posts)DEERFIELD BEACH Appearing before political activists in Broward, the most liberal Democratic territory in Florida, U.S. Senate candidate Patrick Murphy pitched himself as a pragmatist who is willing to cross the political aisle to talk to and work with Republicans.
"Floridians, along with Americans in general, are tired of the hyper-partisanship that they see in Washington. They want results and they deserve results. There are so many things we should be fighting for instead of fighting against," Murphy said Sunday. "America needs a long-term vision. But it's going to require that we put the partisanship aside and get the job done. That's just not happening in the U.S. Senate right now."
.....
The assembled Democrats eager to capture the state's Republican-held U.S. Senate seat as part of their hope to wrest back control of the U.S. Senate liked what they heard. "Not all Democrats are super liberals," said Bernie Parness, president of the Deerfield Beach Democratic Club, where Murphy spoke at a luncheon that included about 90 party activists, candidates, political consultants and elected officials.
......
Since he took office in 2013, Murphy's broken from his party and President Barack Obama so much that he was one of only four Democrats endorsed in 2014 by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which almost always supports Republicans.
......
Murphy has been criticized by some in the party's liberal wing who think his more conservative leanings mean the Democratic base won't be excited if he wins the nomination. And some regard him as insufficiently vigilant on the Democratic goal of protecting Social Security from any changes. Murphy on Sunday described himself as someone who supports "shoring up" Social Security and who is working to "protect" Medicare.
Another Third Way triangulation specialist. And I tend to suspect anyone who says they want to "shore up" Social Security. Another buy-partisan. Feh.

(26,795 posts)Murphy supported Mitt Romney in the '08.
Perhaps this is a pre-emptive endorsement since Grayson expressed interest in running for the seat. So the DLC, er, I mean, the DSCC is acting in a competitive manor WITHIN the party...pushing progressives out. But, that's what they do.

(94,331 posts)Isn't it interesting that DCCC, another arm of the same evil Party was happy to support him in his House race?

One look at PM's wiki page is enough to indicate why some will say, "enough is enough".

(160 posts)We love Alan here in Central Florida. He has been to speak at our union hall, and will always answer our phone calls. This endorsement of Murphy is definitely ploy to shut Alan out from party money. We have his back along with all the other trade unions in Central Florida.

(94,331 posts)...and are content to wait for the Primary.
Of course, the more likely explanation for Florida is that 1) they've concluded that Grayson won't run, and 2) they feel that Murphy needs as much support as possible to take back Rubio's seat. But that explanation wouldn't be nearly as much fun...
Last week Alan gave us a heads up that he would be announcing in the next 2 weeks. Now, who knows? Which I am sure was the DSCC's desired result. It was no secret that Alan wanted to run.

(1,560 posts)Murphy's record is certainly not one any reasonable person could call progressive, but maybe that's what the DSCC thinks will get votes in Florida. We've seen that before. I'll wait.

(17,064 posts)Is more concerned with keeping progressive candidates off the ballot than with defeating republicans. Bill Nelson and DWS pull the strings, and they are DLC scum. All we get to vote for lately are ex-republicans.

(1,560 posts)I'll never forget that stunt DWS pulled in 2008 when she refused to help out Democrats challenging the three GOP Cuban-American congressmen. She is a sock-puppet for those terrorist wingnuts. That fact that her sorry ass is head of the DNC is an embarrassment.
