Days after their indictment in the George Washington Bridge lane closings scandal, two people close to Governor Christie appeared in federal court Monday morning and formally denied they were part of a conspiracy to exact political vengeance against the mayor of Fort Lee for not endorsing the governors re-election in 2013.
Seated at the defense table before the hearing began, Bill Baroni, put his hand over his heart and clasped the hand of Bridget Anne Kelly. About 20 minutes later, after the courtroom was cleared of spectators, they briefly embraced, then headed downstairs.
Lawyers for Kelly, a former deputy chief of staff to Christie, and Baroni, the former deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, entered not guilty pleas on their clients' behalf during the brief initial appearance and arraignment before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in Newark.
The judge set bail at $150,000 unsecured bond for each meaning that they do not have to post money or property and scheduled their trial for July 7.

Not guilty? I can't wait for the trial when we find out just what Kelly meant by that email, "time for traffic problems in Fort Lee".

(2,419 posts)is the possibility that Christie may be called to testify at the trial. Pretty interesting, isn't it?
On the fifth floor of the federal courthouse in Newark before the same judge who heard David Wildstein's guilty plea in the BridgeGate case on Friday, Bill Baroni and Bridget Anne Kelly today both entered not guilty pleas to the nine-count indictment against them that was unsealed.
Both camps signaled that their clients would take the stand in their defense at a trial set to begin in early July. And Bridget Kelly's attorney Michael Critchley signaled that he would soon put the so-called "Mastro Report" the investigation by the law firm Gibson Dunn Crutcher done at the behest of Gov. Chris Christie to clear Gov. Chris Christie under a microscope. He also left open the possibility that the governor may be called as a witness in the trial.

(29,067 posts)I can't stand that guy -- Such a bully.
Even though I grew up and spent most of my life in Philly and New Jersey,
I can't imagine how he got elected, or how anyone could imagine
he had enough "mainstream" appeal to run for president.

(24,695 posts)in this area now for almost twenty years and when I go down to spend the day or weekend with my wife's parents, I go to these yearly township meetings and they tell everyone how great a job this hypocrite is doing.
I stand up and ask, really, why did you and him privatize the sewer and water for example, brag about laying off a city or country worker and shift that cost to a for-profit organization by raising the fees 13% when it use to cost 6% in the county tax.
Tell everyone how this works again-------
Then I will ask a them another question and use the question from one the various books by David Cay Johnston, and they just stare at you and try to change the topic.
It is amazing, how the all the die hard republicans Christie, start to complain, and you try to explain it to them, they don't you see the lack of transparency, they just look at me-------its amazing.
No, disrespect to them but its like lemmings going over a cliff, he (Christie ) is a republican, so its right-------no, he is hypocrite and he needs to "shut up and sit down"

(764 posts)What is the reason they are both 'threatening' to testify so early on like this? Whats the pay off for that action? Are they hoping the GOP Gods throw magic dust in the air and make those mean democratic enforcers go away?
