Silicon Valley technology executive David Goldberg husband of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg died after collapsing in a gym while on vacation in Mexico, a source close to the family said Monday.
Goldberg, the 47-year-old CEO of SurveyMonkey, was found lying next to a treadmill Friday at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita near Puerto Vallarta, The Associated Press reported, citing a Mexican state official.
Concerned family members found him in the gym after he didn't return from exercising, said the official, who was not authorized to comment publicly on the matter but spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
Goldberg was still alive when he was found, but died after being taken to a hospital, the official told the AP. The cause of death was severe head trauma and bleeding, the official said.

Not a fan of Sheryl Sandberg or her book, but this is a terrible thing to happen to anyone, esp'ly at such a young age.

Meant to be a joke that he was so out of shape the lions didnt get him, he had a heart attack before they could or something like that.
this reminded me of that story line
not funny in real life, but a weird coincidence

(22,380 posts)sounds as if he slipped off and hit his head!
I very recently read Sheryl's book, found it full of valuable thoughts and advice to women and all others who want to make a career and a family co-exist. Naturally after reading it I feel closer to her and her family. I'm really sorry for her and the children's awful loss.

(14,061 posts)You play hell getting it back, especially if you're at a running pace. I've had several close calls, either because I was running too fast for the speed (my foot would hit the hard top of the treadmill just above the belt) or my ankle would suddenly turn. When that happens you slide back and have just seconds to regain your footing before you're totally off the machine.
I suspect he was going fast, slipped, and was thrown off backward before he knew what was going on.
Very tragic accident. Thoughts are with the family.
This is very odd, but the family isn't saying anything.
