Activists outraged after Paraguay denies abortion to 10-year-old rape victim

Despite an international outcry and a plea from her mother, Paraguay authorities have denied an abortion to a 10-year-old girl believed raped by her stepfather. The Catholic country only allows an abortion if the mother's life is in danger.

The girl is one of three siblings who shared a rented room with their mother and stepfather in the town of Luque. The mother reported to authorities over a year ago that her husband was sexually abusing her daughter, but nothing was done. The girl in now about 22 weeks pregnant.

"Right now, there is no reason to interrupt the pregnancy," Lida Sosa, director of healthcare programs at the ministry of public health and wellness, told the Guardian. "She has no complications at all."

The girl was taken to a shelter and her mother was imprisoned last month, accused of failing to protect her child. The stepfather has fled.

at the very least as a political force. The influence of this vile church needs to be destroyed.

All The 2015 Anti-Abortion Legislation That's Been Passed So Far (Get A Grip, Arkansas!) (Keep in mind this article was published 3 weeks ago, so there have been more passed since then)

It’s only April, but 2015 has already seen a staggeringly high of number of anti-abortion laws and restrictions. Both federal and state legislatures have taken major steps backwards for women’s reproductive rights so far in 2015, making it increasingly harder for women to seek safe and legal abortion care. In the first quarter of 2015, legislatures in all 50 states collectively introduced 332 provisions aimed at restricting abortion services, compared to 335 during the entire 2014 legislative session, according to the Guttmacher Institute. Needless to say, politicians have intensified their attacks on women’s right to choose and it’s going to be a gruesome year if this trend continues.

The landscape of the SCOTUS is going to change soon.. it has to.

Scalia is now 79 years old.
Kennedy is now 78 years old.
Justice Ginsburg is 82 years old.
Breyer is 76.

The odds that all 4 of these Justices will still be Justices on the SCOTUS in 8 years is more than a little unlikely.

The most important thing of all is we have a Democrat for President for the next 8 years to select the replacement('s), and regaining the Senate to get the president's choices confirmed. If by any chance at all Justice Ginsburg, or Breyer gets replaced by another Scalia/Thomas/or Alito type.. we're done for. Conversely, we get Scalia replaced with another Sotomayor/Kagan/Breyer/Ginsburg type.. we're so in business of getting appalling anti-human and anti-equal rights laws wiped out.
