Huckabee set to announce presidential run Tuesday

Source: Washington Post

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is slated to announce Tuesday that he will make a second bid for the Republican nomination.

The challenges are formidable for the man who won the 2008 Iowa caucuses. In that earlier race, Huckabee, 59, a former Baptist preacher, struggled to expand his reach beyond evangelical voters, and ran out of money in subsequent contests.

Huckabee is a gifted communicator. Polls have consistently shown that he has relatively high name recognition and popularity among Republicans. Early this year, he quit his television show on Fox News, so that he could more deeply explore the possibility of another run.

This time, his challenge will be finding a way to break through in a field that is likely to include a dozen or more credible, well-financed contenders. Among them are relatively fresh faces, such as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), who are challenging him for the financial and political support of conservative Christians.

A man with an extensive criminal past -- whose 95-year prison sentence was commuted in Arkansas nearly a decade ago by then-Gov. Mike Huckabee-- was being sought Sunday as a "person of interest" in a deadly ambush on four police officers who were gunned down inside a coffee shop.

Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told reporters that Maurice Clemmons, 37, was one of several people investigators want to talk to and that he could not be called a suspect at this point.

In a news release, the sheriff's office said Clemmons has an extensive violent criminal history from Arkansas, including aggravated robbery and theft. Clemmons was also recently was arrested and charged in Pierce County, Washington state for third-degree assault on a police officer, and second-degree rape of a child.

Little Rock, Ark -- As governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee aggressively pushed for the early release of a convicted rapist despite being warned by numerous women that the convict had sexually assaulted them or their family members, and would likely strike again. The convict went on to rape and murder at least one other woman.

Confidential Arkansas state government records, including letters from these women, revealed publicly for the first time, directly contradict the version of events now being put forward by Huckabee.

While on the campaign trail, Huckabee has claimed that he supported the 1999 release of Wayne Dumond because, at the time, he had no good reason to believe that the man represented a further threat to the public. Thanks to Huckabee's intervention, conducted in concert with a right-wing tabloid campaign on Dumond's behalf, Dumond was let out of prison 25 years before his sentence would have ended.

"There's nothing any of us could ever do," Huckabee said Sunday on CNN when asked to reflect on the horrific outcome caused by the prisoner's release. "None of us could've predicted what [Dumond] could've done when he got out."

The second one is really vile ..... One woman who was raped told Huckabee to his face that
if he let the rapist go he would rape and murder again which he did after Huckabee set him
free. At one time the man Huckabee let go beat a man to death with a claw hammer.

The first link has a man Huckabee let go against the wishes of the parole board killing
some cops as they ate lunch.

RW clowns aren't really serious. They are just looking for $$$$$$$$.....from the gullible and our electoral system (koch owned) that showers them with funds on announcement of their candidacy. I am not fooled by this circus of clowns. They DO get to keep what they don't spend. Hell I should announce my candidacy!!!!. I may be able to pay off my vet bill for the surgery my cat had. So expensive and I'm still trying to pay it off.

Huckabee marches to the orders of Roger Ailes. He's in it to suck up money from gullible Evangelicals, to pave the way for Jeb or Mario.

Undoubtedly a condition for his previous and future Faux News employment.

He'll do anything to make a buck. After a brief presidential run and the publicity that goes with it, he will write some more short insubstantial pointless books.
