Police: Teacher lowered autistic boy head-first into trash

Source: AP

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — A Georgia special education teacher is accused of cruelty to children after police say she held an autistic boy upside-down by his legs and lowered him head-first into a trash can.

An arrest warrant says Mary Katherine Pursley told the second-grader that if he had "trashy behavior" like the Sesame Street character Oscar the Grouch, he would go "to the trash can."

Cobb County School District police state in the warrant that another employee witnessed Pursley place the boy into the trash can at Mount Bethel Elementary School outside Atlanta on April 30.

possible this is not the first incidence, that this teacher has a predisposition for this type of behavior.

5. Imagine if a cop did this. People would line up around the block to defend the cop

Remember, cops handcuffed and tasered an 8 year old girl throwing a temper tantrum. And were cleared of everything.

If that teacher had been my (potentially) children's teachers - and the teacher had treated my kids, if they had autism, or anything like in that spectrum that way - I would possible have been doing some really nasty things to that teachers in return.... Possible end myself in a prison for a while - at least to cool down a little... Even though I suspect it would have been troublesome getting me calm enough to get in a prison to cool down... I would have been going berserk-gang in its original meaning of the words...

And Im not a person who like or condone violence at all - rather the opposite - but if anyone did a kid of my some harm - I would not be pleased....

Just goes to show, a teacher that can pass a certification test may still be unqualified to teach.

Another truism in this situation is that we get what we pay for.

pretty terrible methods to control children and adults like this all around the country. One I remember was placing the child in a small box in a lock down type punishment. I had hoped that those days were over.
