Official: Over 20 injured, homes destroyed after Texas storm

VAN, Texas (AP) — About two dozen people were injured and some homes were destroyed after a severe storm struck the small town of Van in northeast Texas, an emergency management official said.

The storm that the National Weather Service said likely produced a tornado hit the east side of Van Zandt County and the city of Van around 8:45 p.m. Sunday.

Chuck Allen, the Van Zandt County fire marshal and emergency management coordinator, said in an email early Monday morning that approximately 26 patients were transported to hospitals after a triage area was established at a church.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.

And how scary

I know spring storms are common and bad ones hit "tornado alley" every spring. But these seem to be outside that area and both seem to be late in the year for those areas.

We're just killing ourselves with global warming and I believe it may be too late to do anything to stop it

Suspected tornadoes killed at least two people at a mobile home park in Arkansas and damaged about 30 percent of a city in East Texas, authorities said early Monday.

Up to 50 million Americans from Texas to Michigan were bracing Monday for a band of thunderstorms and severe weather stretching down the country's midsection. At least 26 tornadoes were reported on Sunday.

The deaths were confirmed in the Howard County city of Nashville — which is located close to the borders with Texas and Oklahoma and experienced "lots of flooding and strong winds," Arkansas Department of Emergency Management spokesman Rick Fahr said. At least two other people in the area were critically injured by the severe weather. A tornado warning had been issued for the area around 1:20 a.m. local time (2:20 a.m. ET) on Monday.

At least 26 people were also hospitalized when a tornado ripped through Van, Texas, causing "heavy damage" on Sunday, Smith County Emergency Management spokesman Keith Tate said. Van is a city of 2,600 people about 73 miles east of Dallas.

8. I can't believe that we're halfway through spring and some people

are still freezing their asses off! And the fact that tornado alley is living up to its name is also astonishing. Climate change is real and its killing people left and right!
