London (AFP) - A right-wing fanatic who felt marginalised because of his ginger hair plotted the assassination of Prince Charles in the hope that his red-haired son Harry would become king, a British court heard Tuesday.

Mark Colborne, 37, from Southampton in southern England, who is on trial accused of preparing terrorist acts for several months in the run-up to his arrest in June 2014.

In a notebook seized by police, Colborne said he wanted to kill "dark haired" people, prosecutor Annabel Darlow told the Old Bailey court in London.

"I want them to see my transition from poor red-haired victimised minority that is constantly walked over to a fully transformed military terrorist," he wrote.

A ginger-haired neo-Nazi accused of plotting a mass cyanide terror attack against non-Aryans wanted to kill Prince Charles with a sniper rifle, a court heard. Mark Colborne, 37, of Butts Road, Southampton, who denies preparing terrorism acts, wrote in his diary his desire to shoot dead the future king to make way for red-haired Prince Harry to take the throne.

The disturbing excerpt was read to jurors at the Old Bailey on Tuesday (12 May). Colborne wrote: "Wouldn't it be great to have a military silent rifle, take up a good stealth position and put a bullet in Charles' head.

"I would sacrifice my life for that one shot. Kill Charles and Prince Harry becomes king... Kill the tyrants and become free from tyrannical future rule."

In another entry he wrote about his racial hatred for non-Aryans – those he referred to as "blacks and Caucasian idiots" and compared himself to right-wing extremists such as Timothy McVeigh and Anders Breivik, who shot dead 69 people from the Workers' Youth League (AUF) on a summer camp on the island of Utoya and eight others in Oslo.

The jury in the trial of a man accused of planning a mass cyanide from attack from his bedroom has failed to reach a verdict.

Mark Colborne, 37, of Southampton, had denied preparing terrorist acts.

During the trial, the prosecution argued Mr Colborne planned the attack because he felt "belittled by society" for being white and ginger-haired.

Six men and six women on the Old Bailey jury were discharged. Prosecutors indicated they would seek a retrial.
