By ALLEN REED
CABOT, Ark. (AP) Authorities say Arkansas officers fatally shot a handcuffed parolee who fired at them from inside a patrol car.
State Department of Community Correction Deputy Director Dina Tyler says 35-year-old Jonathan McIntosh was killed Tuesday in Cabot, 25 miles northwest of Little Rock.
Tyler says ADCC and Lonoke County Sheriff's Department officers detained McIntosh while searching for another suspect.
She says officers found suspected drugs on McIntosh, cuffed his hands behind him and put him in the back of the vehicle. She says McIntosh opened fire when officers returned to interview him.
FULL short breaking story at link.

(5,018 posts)of you while you are handcuffed.
Not impossible, but it would require the person either be a psychopath or completely out of their minds on drugs.
And, I have had my share of getting out of my mind and NEVER did I want to kill anybody.
not once

(2,382 posts)... for not searching the guy thoroughly, or just really bad liars. I'm going with the latter. There isn't the remotest possibility that someone with his hands cuffed behind him can fire anything at anyone. Well, maybe he could kneel on the seat and fart at them.
Too many cops are sadists and liars who think they're above the law.

(5,754 posts)How are these handcuffed suspects in the backs of police cars getting hold of guns and shooting at the cops? And why in hell would they, knowing they will be killed?
The cops aren't even trying to make their stories plausible anymore. I'm just not buying it.

(11,841 posts)Or the cops did a shitty job of both cuffing and searching him.
Other than that, sounds like a reasonable story, right??

(95,337 posts)Ok that's about the ONLY reason I could give for shooting a suspect in handcuffs.
Other than that it's bullshit.

the man's hands are cuffed BEHIND him and he manages to shoot at the officers??? please, try to be remotely credible.

(15,882 posts)So not only was he cuffed in back, he got them in front AND he got a gun. Amazing conincidence.
Most people would only accomplish one of those at once. This fella was an overachiever. And not much trouble in his history, which makes one wonder what led to this?

(112,432 posts)thinking of the scene in "thunderheart" where john trudell's character, jimmy looks twice, is running from the fbi agents. he makes a running jump, and gets his hands in front. of course, he is out in the open, and in motion.

I have also seen a missed item in a frisk. Scary, and rare if one has their head about them.
But either a sloppy handcuffing and/or a very loosely jointed person AND a missed frisk at the same time makes me wonder what else there was...

(88 posts)the man doing the shooting or the cops doing the killing, as I was not there nor do I have access to the reports.
But I have personally seen several instances of people moving their handcuffed hands from back to front.
Especially if they are lean in build and fueled by anger and drugs.
It is possible, it can and has been done several times.
I worked in corrections for a while...it was a cardinal rule: Never trust the handcuffs!
There are even techniques known to the...shall we say...non-law abiding element...on how to actually break the cuffs and if you have ever seen the unholy strength of a small-framed man while on PCP (Angel Dust), then you know it can be done.
I saw a woman that weighed about 135 pounds, drop her shoulders, actually pull them out of socket, step through the cuffs and be out of them in about 45 seconds, using a piece of flattened paper clip.
There are actually police training videos that show how easily cuffs can be defeated. Not by everyone, of course, but a sufficient number of folks so that one should always be wary of leaving a handcuffed person alone.

(13,877 posts)someone "dropped" it. They made the statement that it wasn't an Official Gun, or official cover that one was not left on the seat...or? Any more I don't believe any of them. They are either doing wrong things or covering them up...pretty much most of the time, as I see it. No wonder the UN is lecturing us (the sainted global arbitors) on Human Rights. We damn well deserve it.
