Bin Laden Raid Documents Disclose Terror Plots Aimed at U.S

Source: Bloomberg

The U.S. released a trove of documents seized when special forces stormed Osama bin Laden’s hideout in Pakistan in 2011 that include references to unfulfilled plots such as an attack on the U.S. embassy in Moscow.

Among the documents captured at the hideout in Abbottabad, where the terrorist behind the Sept. 11 attacks was killed, are appraisals of terrorist efforts in Pakistan and Afghanistan, an eclectic list of books owned by the terrorist leader and an application form to join his group, al-Qaeda.

The trove of captured material, released on Wednesday by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, underscored bin Laden’s preoccupation with attacking U.S. and Western targets. That’s in contrast to the emphasis on capturing territory and establish a caliphate in the Middle East that has been the prime goal so far of the Islamic State group that broke off from al-Qaeda and has seized a swath of Syria and Iraq.

A document labeled “Report on the external operations” expresses frustration that several plots had failed because of “bad luck and God wasn’t on our side.” Those included targets in “Russia (exploding the gas line or the American embassy),” and the U.K., as well as Americans in Denmark, where the letter said a European group “formed of 3 brothers” was sent to carry out an operation.

Take, for example, the fact that Ayman al Zawahiri corroborated that part of the adminisration's account.

But, I guess we should trust Hersh's sources in the Pakistani ISI, who had been sheltering bin Laden. Lord knows they're made out of credibility.

But Whitehall's view of Islamist militants as handy weapons or shock troops is far from historical. In 1999, during Nato's bombing campaign against Yugoslavia, the Blair government secretly trained fighters in the Kosovo Liberation Army to act as Nato's soldiers on the ground. The KLA was openly described by ministers as a terrorist organisation, and worked closely with al-Qaida fighters who joined the Muslim cause; their military centre was in the same camp network in Kosovo and Albania where the SAS were providing training. One KLA unit was led by the brother of Ayman al-Zawahiri, Bin Laden's right-hand man. This murky feature of Blair's "humanitarian intervention" remains conveniently overlooked in most accounts of the war.

who want to cast dispersions on the truth of 'the raid' are to be expected to come out the woodwork, now that we are entering a phase of american history(election 2016) that will be looked back upon as a make it or break it time in america. This garbage by hersh is just another attempt by political enemies to make DEMS look bad. Bernie or HRC are going to be in a tough battle. I just hope they are smart enough to win.

JAY: Then the other bomb is one of the central legacies of President Obama. He got bin Laden.

HERSH: Well, that's tough. Because I'm a, I--you know, I support, you know. Just as a human being, I voted for him twice, and I think he's the smartest president we've had probably since Lincoln. You know, he's a pretty amazing guy.

he didn't get his 'expose' material from dubious sources. I trust nothing coming from the mouths/pens of so called 'experts' these days. Period. Bin laden is dead. That was the mission, that was accomplished. Period.
