Woman found pushing dead 3-year-old son in swing

BALTIMORE (AP) A woman was found pushing her dead 3-year-old son in a park swing Friday, and authorities say she may have been there for hours, or even since the day before.
There were no obvious signs of foul play, but it has not been ruled out, said Diane Richardson, a spokeswoman with the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
Richardson said authorities are trying to trace the 24-year-old woman's movements over the past several days "to find out what was going on in her life, what led to this moment."
Sheriff's deputies went to the park in La Plata, Maryland, about 7 a.m. after being called to check on the welfare of the woman and child, Richardson said. The officers went to remove the boy from the swing and give him first aid, but "it was instantaneously clear the child was dead," she said. There were no signs of trauma to his body.

(3,163 posts)Animal mothers often do this with babies that don't make it. Mothers just cannot deal with the loss; refuse to accept it. It's not creepy at all. It is evidence of an amazing bond.

(9,958 posts)and saw that woman pushing her dead 3-year old on a swing for hours, would they say, "What an amazing bond," or "Holy fuck, that's creepy?"
I think the latter.

(23,522 posts)I have seen a lot. This doesn't surprise me. I actually think for her it was much more healing than having medical staff pull her away from her dead child.
I have seen a lot.
Mothers holding their dead children for hours. Young siblings holding dead babies.(I am of the belief that young siblings being a part of this is better than them not being a part of it and watching their parents grieve. Their imagination about what death is can be much worse than watching it first hand).I have seen family members lying in bed for hours cuddling a dead child. It is not uncommon in the pediatric hospice world to keep the child's body at home for more than 12 hours. They may sound dysfunctional in writing. Sometimes there is loud screaming that goes on and I need to tell family members to allow mom to scream don't discourage it. If you are there and witnessing these horrible times and stay around after, it is usually very calm. It's like the family member will snap out of it and do a bit better.
I am hopeful that for this mother doing this was helpful.

(153,138 posts)I think sociopaths are made and not born, and I wondered what happened to Duyba to turn him into such an unfeeling monster......when his little sister Robin died of leukemia at age 3, his parents - acting on incredibly bad advice, behaved to the rest of the children like nothing had happened.....there was no real explanation for Dubya (age 8) why Robin would never return.....you are correct that these feelings must be dealt with.
I am thankful for people like you.

(1,859 posts)sociopathic parents. After listening to the things Barbara Bush said on camera and what she did during Hurricane Katrina (she donated 70,000 to the disaster but stipulated it could only be used to buy software from her son's company as well as she said many down right sociopathic things,) I have no problem believing she is a sociopath. And, I can say that for all of the presidents from 1980 forward.

(1,859 posts)lost their baby 2 hours after it was born and how they kept it with them in the hospital for literally 2 days and really wanted me to come up and see it before it was taken away and cremated. I didn't and he had a problem with me for years because I didn't go see her. I didn't want to see a dead baby and I prefer not. My family even does this stuff at funeral homes - hang out holding hands with the dead, etc. I don't get it, but you're right. It's normal.
