House vote throws open carry bill into jeopardy
By Lauren McGaughy | May 27, 2015 | Updated: May 27, 2015 6:32pm

AUSTIN – The Texas House dealt a blow to open carry Wednesday, refusing to sign off on a provision that would bar police officers from detaining or questioning someone solely for visibly toting a handgun.

The House had the chance to give the legislation final approval and send it to the desk of Gov. Greg Abbott, who has pledged to sign it into law. Instead, the lower chamber disagreed with the controversial provision added by the Senate, sending the bill to a conference committee.

Should the committee fail to come to agreement, the bill would come back to the House for a second attempt to get the membership to concur with the Senate version. If the two chambers are unable to agree in the remaining days of the session, the bill would die.

Police groups have expressed vehement opposition to the provision in question, which was tacked onto the Senate version of the bill by Sen. Don Huffines, R-Dallas.

Teabaggers have totally lost it, I just don't have words for the crap they come up with. First they claim to be all for 'law and order', and then this shit. It's just fucking stupid to tote a gun around in public.

The police would have no right to question or detain a 200 strong biker gang openly carrying weapons. Texas could turn into a Mad Max style dystopia.

Why is it a liberal "War On Cops" for New York to suspend stop and frisk, but in Texas it is a conservative position to end stopping even an open carrying person?

Not that wanting to run around with your "trusty sidearm" strapped to your hip isn't pretty damn wacko, but to not even allow the police to question you about if you're legal or not, that's fully insane.

This is the same state that makes a woman have an unnecessary probe shoved up her vagina, listen to propaganda and deal with a wait to have a procedure preformed by her doctor which is deemed legally a constitutional right.

They've lost their damn minds in Texas!

This guy says: "“We should demanding these people give us our rights back or it’s punishable by death. Treason. Do you understand how serious this is Texas?” Watkins asks. “This is treason against the American people. You don’t sell my right back to me. You’re going to find trouble.”"

...honestly, this guy should have a gun period, regardless of whether he can carry it openly or not.
