Clinton pushes equal pay for women in SC stop

Source: The State

Hillary Clinton drew applause from S.C. Democratic women Wednesday, pledging to fight for equal pay for them and higher wages, adding she will “make the words ‘middle class’ mean something again.”

“Too many women still earn less than men on the job. Women of color often make even less,” Clinton said to Democratic women attending the 2015 Day in Blue in Columbia Wednesday.

“Then, there's the so-called motherhood penalty with many women taking a pay cut when they have children. ... For many of families, we’re talking about thousands of dollars (lost in wages) a year.”

While critics say Clinton has trouble connecting with voters, she had the Columbia crowd laughing and applauding throughout her 25-minute speech, delivered on a one-day stop in the Palmetto State, before the Democrat heads to Georgia, Florida and Texas.

Did she just come to this position?

Will we now see a flood of Stand With Hillary! ads on this?

Big on applause lines like "equal pay", so faint as to be translucent on any actual substance. In fact, she was actually kind of offended by the fact that equal pay was the big thing, given that the audience was all women--it struck her as less than courageous.

It's probably worth adding that my wife really, really tried to like Hillary, since she (like many of us) really wants to see a woman as president in her lifetime. But she just couldn't do it.

By the way, Bernie's been down here so many times, it's not even that big a deal any more!

Regardless, watch the CSPAN video. It was a TV speech aimed at women all over the US, not really intended to turn SC into a blue state. Hillary was relaxed and on point. Compare that to the angry Bernie with yachts in the background. What do you think minority women or immigrants think if they saw either on TV? What about housewives? College coeds?

Actually, my sister is a GOP crossover who would vote for Hillary on specific issues: women's health, equal pay, and international experience.

I guess individual opinions aren't as useful a polls or the actual election.

How is Bernie doing in SC polls against Hillary?

A relative used to work for this newspaper.

Glad to see that Hillary visited South Carolina. South Carolina would vote vote republican even if Jesus were the Democratic nominee, but I'm glad Hillary went there. I hope Bernie goes too.

He later became Clinton's Secretary of Education.

Things change, and they can change again.

PS: Remember Byran Dorn? Maybe not.
