Latest on flooding: Officials: Threat remains across Texas

Source: AP

While the barrage of deadly thunderstorms that hit Texas this week has tapered off, many cities remain in danger, and officials are warning about possible flooding from rain-swollen rivers.

In suburban Houston, subdivisions along the San Jacinto River are expected to flood.

In Wharton, located southwest of Houston, residents in 300 homes on the west side of the city have been asked to evacuate due to the predicted rise of the Colorado River. And in the North Texas town of Horseshoe Bend, about 250 residents were asked to evacuate their homes, as the Brazos River swelled toward its flood stage Thursday.

The death toll from the storms and flooding has climbed to 21 — 17 in Texas and four in Oklahoma. Houston alone had seven storm-related deaths.

Alaena Tate, a member of a search and rescue team, looks through debris for people who were still missing after heavy flooding Wednesday, May 27, 2015, around Umphery Ranch located between Wimberley and San Marcos, Texas. The search went on for about a dozen people, including a group that disappeared after a vacation home was swept down a river and slammed into a bridge. So far everything within my view is dry. I'm going to take a bike ride to downtown in awhile to check out the Colorado River and see if there is any street flooding since that is the likeliest place to flood. I'll take some pictures and upload them along with a report from the TTP (TexasToweliePress).

In other news, the hard disk on my PC is fried and I'm operating off my brother's laptop so I'm not going to be as active on posting stories.

are still rising and we're getting more rain tonight. They found the body of an 87 year old man in the ship channel. He and his wife were swept away when the rescue vessel they were on capsized. So sad.

The river was about 10 feet below the bridge, but it is not expected to crest until tomorrow. I don't believe that any structures have been subjected to flooding yet. However, some of the lookout areas at the park are already under water.
