Bob Schieffer Hosts Last Face The Nation Sunday
Source: Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) At 78, Bob Schieffer is entitled to reminisce about the good old days of reporting. He believes young people coming into the business can also learn from them.
Schieffer will host CBS Face the Nation on Sunday for the last time after 24 years. Hes retiring from a journalism career that began at 20 at a Fort Worth, Texas, radio station and landed him at CBS News in Washington when he walked in on someone elses interview.
Hes one of the last of a generation of reporters working at such a high level; he covered the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, a story that gave him one of the biggest scoops of his career.
I suppose every generation thinks that the kids younger than them arent as good as they were and screwed it up in some way, he said. I try not to sound like an old goat, but the fact is there will always be a need for reporters, whether they are doing it on television or a website or for a newspaper that is not on paper anymore.

It was bad enough that he gave the freak a forum, but Bob didn't ask a single question about Trump's endless lying in the weeks leading up to it (imaginary Hawaiian investigators finding "things even they can not believe," etc.).
Instead, he just let Trump share his oh-so-wise "expertise" on a bunch of random issues and pretended the birther humiliation of the correspondent's dinner never happened.

CBS News, Nov. 22, 2013
Within two and a half hours of President Kennedy's assassination -- 50 years ago today -- the suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald, was arrested while hiding in a movie theater.
His mother heard the news at her home in Fort Worth -- and wanted desperately to get to the police station in Dallas.
Which led to a remarkable encounter for 26-year-old Fort Worth newspaper reporter named Bob Schieffer.
Schieffer was working the Star-Telegram's overnight police beat. He wasn't assigned to cover the crime of the century. As a junior reporter, he was stuck in the newsroom answering phones.
"I picked up the phone and a woman said, 'Is there anybody there who can give me a ride to Dallas?' and I almost hung up the phone," Schieffer recalled. "And I said, 'Lady, you know, we're not running a taxi service here. And besides, the president's been shot.' And she says, 'Yes, I heard it on the radio. I think my son is the one they've arrested.'"
