Khalid Sheikh Mohammed: former military prosecutor denounces trial

Source: The Guardian

The former chief US prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay has denounced the military trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks due to appear in court at Guantanamo on Saturday, as intended primarily to prevent the defendants from presenting evidence of torture.

Morris Davis, a former colonel who was chief prosecutor when Mohammed was brought to Guantanamo in 2006, said the military commissions will be badly discredited by the use of testimony obtained from waterboarding and other "enhanced interrogation" techniques used on the accused men.

Mohammed and his four co-accused – Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali, Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi and Walid bin Attash – are to appear at an arraignment hearing before a military commission to plead to charges of 2,976 counts of murder for each of the victims who died on 9/11, terrorism, hijacking, conspiracy and destruction of property. The prosecution is seeking the death penalty for all of the men.

Davis, who resigned over the issue, wanted to see Barack Obama follow through on a commitment to move the trials to more open civilian courts but said that advocates of military tribunals prevailed in large part because the rules of evidence prevent the defendants from giving detailed descriptions of how they were tortured as well as other sensitive information such as details of the CIA's secret detention programme and the co-operation of foreign countries, such as Britain, in their capture and interrogations.

Can't have "terrorist" tell their story of how they were tortured for the evidence they are using against them. I'm surprised we still have people who believe the commissions conclusion to 9/11. Doesn't this say ANYTHING to the secrecy of what WE are hiding? No public trial to show US the evidence. No one to have to explain how a passenger plane gets into D.C air space without being shot down, after 2 planes hit the towers. Even though they had 40 minutes to act, they did NOTHING. Donald Rumsfailed doesn't have to testify as to why the Secretary of Defense was helping Pentagon victims instead of doing his fucking job as Secretary of DEFENSE. How did he know there wouldn't be anymore attacks that needed his attention? But hey Go Shop! Go shop while we execute innocent men who fooled the US of A for hours on that morning. Armed with only box cutters. Who needs nukes when the US of A can be attacked with box cutters, and a few planes.

That Card bothered to whisper in Bush's ear that America is under attack and it took Bush another 7 minutes to decide he needed to leave the classroom. There was no Plan A, let alone a Plan B so it makes sense that Langley didn't have any fighters in the air. Everybody was looking at the other person for a clue on what to do so nothing happened. The failure of leadership was massive. And this all followed the August 6th warning that bin Laden was determined to strike inside the United States. Incredible!

against them without using the statements under torture.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammad was the guy who sent a wire transfer on behalf of the Pakistani ISI to the 9/11 terrorists and left a paper trail.

Do you really trust anything you read in the newspaper when you know that our government is constantly covering up and lying?

Even the heads of the 9/11 Commission know they were bamboozled--
•Hamilton also says "I don't believe for a minute we got everything right", that the Commission was set up to fail, that people should keep asking questions about 9/11, that the 9/11 debate should continue, and that the 9/11 Commission report was only "the first draft" of history.
Many of the other 9/11 Commissioners don't buy it:
•9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey said that "There are ample reasons to suspect that there may be some alternative to what we outlined in our version . . . We didn't have access . . . .
•9/11 Commissioner Timothy Roemer said "We were extremely frustrated with the false statements we were getting"

Senator Bob Graham, the Florida Democrat who is a former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, accused the White House on Tuesday of covering up evidence that might have linked Saudi Arabia to the Sept. 11 hijackers.

The fucking country that made me pledge allegiance to them every fucking morning in public school practiced torture in the 21st Century!

http://emptywheel.firedoglake.com/2009/04/18/khalid-sheikh-mohammed-was-waterboarded-183-times-in-one-month/I

"I’ve put this detail in a series of posts, but it really deserves a full post. According to the May 30, 2005 Bradbury memo, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was waterboarded 183 times in March 2003 and Abu Zubaydah was waterboarded 83 times in August 2002. "

183 times in a fucking month. did he confess only one letter per torture session until a full sentence could be constructed out of 183 tries?

Trust me, there will be more American torture in the future, now that the traitors that made this policy are not accountable for their acts of treason and war crimes!

It's fuzzy in my mind, but I was flipping channels during a Rachel commercial break and saw some CIA guy on Hannity talking about his new book about how good it was he got to torture this guy and get all the wonderful life saving intelligence.

Torture is always wrong and against every principle this country professes to believe in. Not to mention it only produces low quality bogus info. From the minds of the mean and stupid ignorant pricks that was the GW Bush Administration.

Simply infuriating!
