Woman tells Romney Obama ‘should be tried for treason’

Source: The Ticket Yahoo News

Some of Mitt Romney's best moments on the 2012 campaign trail have come during town hall meetings when the candidate, long criticized as too uptight on the stump, strays off script to take questions from voters.

But the freewheeling nature of voter forums can have its drawbacks. Romney has faced hostile questions on everything from his wealth to his religion. And on Monday, he experienced another awkward moment, when a supporter stood and declared that President Barack Obama should be "tried for treason."

The comment came during a town hall meeting in Cleveland. Taking the microphone, a woman told Romney that Obama had been "operating outside the structure of our Constitution." Pausing after her question, she remarked to another member of the audience, "I agree, he should be tried for treason."

Turning back to Romney, she asked what he would do to "restore balance" between the three branches of government and "restore our Constitution." She did not specify why she believed Obama should be "tried for treason"—a comment that received huge applause from the audience. And when it was his turn to respond, Romney ignored her suggestion about "treason" and instead spoke about how he would "respect the different branches of government."

Maybe Romney didn't have any clue how to answer an idiotic suggestion like the woman made. Or maybe he thought it was just too damn stupid to respond with any comment at all.
Or maybe he believes it, who knows?

They are the George Wallace people. These folks have been around for a long time. There once were folks in the GOP, such as Bill Buckley, who could shame the stupid into silence, but now the stupid has taken over.

They'd be much happier if they grow up. Many no doubt claim to be born-again Christians but they are not bearing any fruit from it. All the same names have played out in the GOP all of these years since then:

In the late 1970s, Wallace announced that he was a born-again Christian and apologized to black civil rights leaders for his earlier segregationist positions. He said that while he had once sought power and glory, he realized he needed to seek love and forgiveness.[note 3] In 1979, Wallace said of his stand in the schoolhouse door: "I was wrong. Those days are over, and they ought to be over."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Wallace#Change_of_positions

I've read his accounts how his caregivers took care of him after the shooting. They were mostly black and he was struck their ability to look beyond his skin color and show him kindness. We've gone backwards in this country and I lay it at the feet of hate radio and television, not an inherited, or race-based mentality. It is not ingrained, it is taught, it is learned. People who indulge themselves with such beliefs are taking a luxury against the realities of life. When times are hard, one must be open to change and look at the world with new eyes. just as George Wallace did.

The George Wallace reference I regularly use is to the unreconstructed Wallace, because that's the one most folks outside of Alabama remember. I'm not even sure the bad old George Wallace was all that sincere, or was just playing the racial game that once bested him.

But these folks? Completely unreconstructed. If you go back and read what the segregation folks were writing back then about small government, states' rights, and communists everywhere, it's pretty much the same. They just can't say some things as loudly as they once did.

A lying, filthy rich, opportunistic coward in a fancy suit. It's enough to make you long for the days of Dan Quayle. The republican party continues its downward spiral, even though the presidential clown car has only one clown left in it.
