Romney Will Increase Military Spending By $2.1 Trillion With No Plan To Pay For It

Source: ThinkProgress

Mitt Romney is campaigning for president on fiscal responsibility. “The mission to restore America begins with getting our fiscal house in order,” he says. At the same time, the presumptive GOP nominee says he wants to increase military spending. His campaign website claims that a President Romney will peg the Pentagon’s budget to Gross Domestic Product “at a floor of 4 percent of GDP.” What will that mean in dollars? CNNMoney reports that under Romney’s plan, “the additional spending really piles up in future years”:

With the Pentagon’s base budget — which does not include war costs — forecast to hit 3.5% of GDP in 2013, a jump to 4% would mean an increase of around $100 billion dollars in defense spending in 2013. [...]

Compared to the Pentagon’s current budget, Romney’s plan would lead to $2.1 trillion in additional spending over the next ten years, according to an analysis conducted for CNNMoney by Travis Sharp, a budget expert at the Center for a New American Security.

And that number assumes a gradual increase to 4% of GDP. The additional spending would hit $2.3 trillion over a decade if the Pentagon’s budget were to immediately jump to 4% of GDP.

He will just have the disabled, seniors, children, and those who can't find work in this economy pay for it. Problem solved, just like in Lord of the Flies.

I'm all for a strong defense. My problem is that we're getting fleeced (in many instances) by defense contractors who have put congresscritters into their pockets.

he just wants to finish us off. Cut social safety net, thinks the churches will cover and gain new recruits, especially the mormon church. And what little money the plebes have left he can divvy it up with his wealthy, corporate buddies. What a grand plan if you're wealthy and don't give a fek about this country or its' people.

dangerous because he should have learned from W's mistakes with ROVE and CO.

He makes John McCain seem like a sweetheart.

And, he now has....
the TEA BAGS in full bloom and in total control of the Republican Party!

Rush still able to remain on TV

He seems to enjoy having Rethugs talk about how they HATE "Obama"
because he is Black. A true leader would lead by example and correct his Tea Players to be respectful.

They don't seem to respect the fact that Obama is smart, successful, kind and has the support and crowds at rallies that have a IQ above 10 and most of all we have CARE GENES.

For sure Mitt doesn't have a CARE GENE in his entire body.

Increase defense spending, cut taxes for the very wealth; then make draconian cuts to the safety net, and claim you're "fiscally responsible!"

Every time I ask: "Can these people get any worse?" they do!

by taking it ALL from the POOR, the old and disabled and all their programs. The entire safety net will be destroyed. If necessary he'll take it from the lower middle class who are trying to escape poverty and put them into poverty. The man is pure EVIL...worse than Bush. I never imagined we could see anyone worse but we're seeing it. Beware America!!

....we have no money to help the suffering American people in this lackluster economy, no money for the ailing American infrastructure and certainly no money to help Grandma buy something other than cat food for lunch, but we have plenty of money to throw at wars, the pentagon and kickbacks for their congressional warmongering lackies....

....God, I hate Republicans.

I see this as a way for Mittens to line his pockets on tax dollars. Of course he'll say that all his investments are in blind trusts but that wouldn't happen unless he wins.
