'Adam 12' Star Martin Milner Dies at 83
Source: TMZ
Martin Milner, who started in the huge hit '60s and '70s show "Adam 12" -- which spawned generations of kids who wanted to become cops -- has died.
Milner also starred in another enormous show -- "Route 66" -- which was a big hit in the '60s.
The actor had roles on several other big hit shows, like "Columbo," "Swiss Family Robinson," "Valley of the Dolls" and "Murder She Wrote."
We're told he died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

(99,579 posts)We had several things Martin signed. He loved the photo of him next to John Wayne in "Operation Pacific".
We met Martin in 2002 at the first Twilight Zone cast and fan reunion. Our page of the event: http://www.steveandmarta.com/graveyards/tzcon2002.htm
Here is the 2004 reunion: http://www.steveandmarta.com/tzcon2004.htm
Martin Milner was next, who was also there only on Saturday. We'd taken a screenshot of him from his role in the William Castle classic "Thirteen Ghosts," and he just about died laughing when he saw it, and told Steve he needed a class upgrade if that was his favorite film.

(20,572 posts)big Route 66 fan here - they are still playing that show on TV and I can't believe the sophistication of some of the stories. They still hold up!

(99,579 posts)Marta never cared for it.
There was a big controversy over the first season when the picture on the screen was altered for widescreen TV's: https://classictvhistory.wordpress.com/2008/02/14/86-this-66-the-tv-classic-route-66-hits-a-dead-end-on-the-hi-def-highway/
The difference below. Look at the space above Darin's head or to the left side.

(3,829 posts)Adam 12 showed how a cop should act. I liked that show when I was a kid.

(15,709 posts)that police violence would not be as prevalent. But instead we go Cops and such showing how to be a "bad ass". Us boomers learned from Bonanza, Adam 12, and a lot of others that told us how to be good people.
Mnpaul
(3,655 posts)That was the whole idea. I was watching a show on the 60's counter culture and they claimed Adam 12 was done to put a positive light on the police. The police in Oakland were out of hand. This also gave rise to the Black Panthers. The Panthers had to carry arms in the streets to protect their people from the police.

MM was her original sweetheart & she met him again at the end of the film after she'd been through the wringer with drugs & booze. I always think of him taking off his hat to show he was bald.

If you're lucky enough to have access to a vintage TV show channel, check out "Route 66." It's a series that's really held up well, over the years. RIP, Mr. Milner.

"1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, be advised your new designation is 1-Adam-13. Happy birthday!"
I nearly wet myself laughing at the time.
