Poland's army wants area cleared before Nazi train search

Source: AP

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland's military says the wooded area where a mystery Nazi train is said to be buried needs to be cleared before any search can be done.

Military engineers have visited a site in southwestern Poland that was indicated by two men who claim they have located the train.

A spokesman for the army operations command, Lt. Col. Artur Golawski, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that following the inspection, local authorities have been told that fallen trees and shrubs must be removed if any serious examination is to be done of the area in the city of Walbrzych.

A local legend says that the Nazis hid a train laden with gold there from the Red Army in early 1945. But no proof has been found.
