Antivirus mogul John McAfee makes his bid to run for president official
Source: ARS Technica
Security firm founder will be founding a new party yet to be announced.
On Tuesday, John McAfee, best known for founding the eponymous software firm McAfee Security (to which is he no longer affiliated), filed paperwork (PDF) with the Federal Election Commission announcing his intent to run for the office of President of the United States.
In an interview with Wired which was posted earlier today, McAfee said that he was still in a quandary about whether to run myself or find someone else for my party.
My advisors are pressing me to run, the self-described eccentric millionaire told the magazine.
It seems as though the unnamed advisors won out by the end of the day.
In his filing, McAfee stated I am founding a new party yet to be announced. Ars contacted McAfee for clarification, who directed us to send questions to his campaign manager, Drew Thompson. I believe you will get little information until our platform is fully outlined, McAfee told us. Thompson has not yet responded to Ars' request for comment.

Anti-virus software pioneer John McAfee is wanted by authorities in Belize only for questioning on how his neighbor ended up dead with a 9mm round to the back of his head in 2012. But not for murder.
Wed like him to come back here and answer questions about Gregory Faull, but no, we dont have enough to arrest him, a special branch officer with the National Police in Belize told me during a brief interview recently in that Central American country. A second National Police officer in the town of Hopkins told me the same thing.
In other words, there is no arrest warrant for McAfee, who now lives in Portland, Oregon after bailing Belize in a hurry in 2012 after authorities sought to question him in the shooting death of Faull, a former neighbor of his who McAfee suspected of poisoning his dogs. Faull was later found gunned down, and McAfee quickly emerged as a suspect.

(11,486 posts)From an article I found online, he was wanted for questioning in the murder of his neighbor who he suspected of poisoning his dogs. Then he apparently fled to Guatemala wearing a disguise, was captured, faked a heart attack, then finally deported to the US. (Where he now believes he's destined to run the country). A truly bizarre individual (think Uncle Duke in Doonesbury).
