Cruz Endorses House Conservatives' Plot To Derail Iran Deal Vote They Demanded

Source: Talking Points Memo

Updated at 12:11 p.m.: A plan hatched by "Tortilla Coast" House conservatives to delay a Congressional vote disapproving of President Obama's Iran nuclear deal got the endorsement of their ringleader in the Senate, GOP 2016er Ted Cruz (R-TX), who took to the Senate floor to outline it Wednesday.

The plan would require lawmakers to vote on a resolution declaring that the Obama administration had not submitted the entirety of the agreement
-- specifically details of so-called “side deals” between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency -- and thus that the review period ordained by the Corker-Cardin compromise had not been triggered.

Cruz explained:

"Those side deals have not been submitted to Congress. Under the terms of Corker-Cardin, the review period has not started, and does not start until the entire deal is submitted to Congress and the president cannot lift these sanctions until the review period expires."
...

It’s unclear how House leaders will react to Roskam’s plan, or whether -- if his resolution passed -- it would have any practical effect in thwarting the deal at all. Even if it does extend the PR battle over the deal, a senior GOP aide suggested to CQ Roll Call that the maneuver could also result in Democrats never having to vote on the deal at all.

The GOP Clown Cars are now colliding with each other.

Remember that two days ago they were whining about Democrats filibustering it. Now they want to cancel the vote.

I was going to make a Taco Bell joke but thought that wouldn't be right. I see Cruz has no problem with it.

but they are weak and cannot do anything.

On the other side, a populist movement that is closer to the KKK and the fascist parties than anything else rebels against them. They should be defeated (including Trump), but this would require a moderate Republican to rally the moderate side of the GOP (limited government, but neither libertarian not ultra-religious/racist). We will not like it, but at least there will be a way to govern. Sadly, this person has not yet appeared (or is now subsumed in the Democratic party).

But, as much as we can laugh at the disarray, this is dangerous.

I thought he was like, making a $174,000 dollars a year going to bigot events in Kentucky and elsewhere, and that's all he does, goes to bigots events to self promote his bigotry, of hate and fear, along with other bigots

And now he is trying again inject himself in the House as its defacto leader and continue the whining of trying to have it both ways.

You along with your other 47 senators that signed the letter should be brought up on treason--------------when you tried to be apart of the co-sponsor of the (senator treason called Cotton from ARK plan), you not only violated the oath of office, but you did violate the oath of office and the constitution and I do believe any citizen in the country can have you and the other treason band brought before a court to explain your actions..

Oh, yeah,

Taking a different path here, obviously of the business and conspiracy angle. Just a thought. Here goes.

Big Business is going to assure the deal goes through and Brezenzski's going to get his revenge before he and Jimmy check out.

Folks, I've always felt the theocracy of Iran was a Ford/Bush creation to displace the Shah who was making moves to nationalize Iranian oil similar to his predecessor Mossadegh. The hostage thing was revenge against Carter for "removing the cowboy element" in 1977.

It's gone on for far too long. Time to make deals and peace with Persia. Not to mention it would be a very good geopolitical checkmate against China and Russia.

Congress imposed on itself? Isn't the President free to act once that deadline passes?

Now that the Republicans know they are going to lose, they want to prevent a vote. They would not be trying to use this tactic if the Democratic Party had not come up with enough votes to sink the Republican plan.
