Wynn Las Vegas To Host Democratic President Debate

Source: fox5vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The Wynn hotel-casino in Las Vegas was revealed Wednesday as the host site for the first Democratic primary presidential debate.

Steve Wynn, CEO of the Strip resort's parent company Wynn Resorts, confirmed details of the Oct. 13 televised debate.

"The staff of Wynn Resorts is comprised of more than twenty-five thousand employees and their families," Wynn said in a statement regarding the announced hosting opportunity. "Ours is a team of great diversity, representing every race, gender, religion, sexual orientation and political philosophy. To have the privilege of being intimately involved in the American political process by hosting this debate is a moment of great pride and excitement for all of us."

The debate will serve as the lead-off debate of six slated into 2016. The other locations include Des Moines, IA, in November; Manchester, NH, in December; Charleston, SC, in January; and Miami and Wisconsin, which each would take place in either February or March.

why are the handful of demographically challenged primary voters of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina favored?

And once again these tiny States are given national prominence completely out of proportion to their population and the general American demographic!

How does that impact fair and balanced national election media coverage and framing of issues of
Presidential candidates forced to cater to this limited population of voters?

One consequence might be the media prominence given to evangelical religious issues very dear to this catered to population....but I see little evidence of that!?

Rotating order of primaries? Or have them all on the same day? Or some other idea?

Nevada, fine - but at a respectable, serious venue like a university auditorium. What possible benefit is there to the image of the Democratic Party to having the debate at a casino/resort on the Strip?

Just last year, a sting operation at a resort owned by MGM Grand resulted in a half million dollar fine and a letter being sent by the state gambling regulators to all casinos warning them to curb illegal activity at clubs and pool parties.

LAS VEGAS -- The Mandalay Bay Resort plans to pay a half-million-dollar fine after employees at an upscale Las Vegas Strip lounge provided prostitutes and drugs to undercover officers.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board filed a proposed settlement with the casino this week. It's awaiting approval by the Nevada Gaming Commission.

Authorities say undercover officers bought cocaine, ecstasy and other drugs from employees of the House of Blues Foundation Room over the summer of 2012. Officials say employees also connected officers with four prostitutes and a private room for sex. The sting caught 10 employees and five non-employees engaging in this kind of illegal activity.

Officials with Mandalay Bay parent company MGM Resorts do not contest the findings of the complaint. The company said the employees involved in the activities have been fired, and the lounge has increased its training procedures to prevent future misconduct. Mandalay Bay will also pay $17,000 to reimburse investigative expenses. The Foundation Room is a chic restaurant and club on the 43rd floor of Mandalay Bay, which is on the Las Vegas Strip.

The complaint says that the investigation was initiated after an undercover officer bought cocaine from a person later determined to be a Foundation Room host. The officer asked the host if he could use the drug at the club and was told he could, if he was careful.
Most of the transactions that occurred during the sting took place in public areas in the casino.

State gambling regulators partnered with local police to conduct a similar sting in 2012 at the Palms Casino Resort west of the Las Vegas Strip. In that case, nightclub employees accepted payments to supply prostitutes, cocaine and pain pills.

9. All candidates should brief staff members to be extra cautious.

Particularly young/newbie staffers. They will be easy targets for all kinds of slick manipulators - pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers, and of course, Karl Rove type dirty tricks operatives. Simple stuff, from never leaving your drinks out of your sight to knowing your every move is being recorded by security cameras. If I were a candidate, I would not stay in a suite comped at this place, and wherever I stayed, I'd have security sweeping the place for surveillance devices. Don't gamble, don't go to strip clubs, don't drink - keep your wits about you. Do your jobs and then get the hell out of Dodge.

10. Are you talking about Las Vegas? Or Washington, DC?

For newbie staffers, I'd guess DC offers more opportunity to get into serious trouble.

Wikipedia uses Las Vegas as the ultimate example of a Sin City. Vegas was built to appeal to and profit from human weaknesses.

D.C. is the nation's capitol - it has a rich history, excellent universities, terrific variety of ethnic restaurants, museums, national monuments, etc. - it all adds up to gravitas. I lived in the Baltimore area for years & one of my adult kids did her graduate degree at GW and then worked in the city - White House Fellow/FBI/FEMA - so I've spent a lot of time there. Kennedy Center, Ford Theater, Fourth of July celebrations, National Press Club, Smithsonian, In other words, there is a lot to do in D.C. that does not involve gambling, strip clubs, prostitution, drug dealing or the like.

Washington is vibrant and diverse; Las Vegas is a cultural (and moral) armpit.
