Boy cuffed to porch with chicken around neck returns to mom

LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) — A judge ruled Wednesday that a North Carolina boy who was found handcuffed to the porch of his legal guardian's house with a dead chicken around his neck two years ago can return to his mother.

WBTV-TV in Charlotte reports (http://bit.ly/1ixQUbw) a Davidson County judge ruled that the boy's biological mother has been awarded permanent custody. In June, a judge allowed the boy to go home with his mother on a trial basis.

In 2013, a deputy found the then-11-year-old boy on the porch. Wanda Sue Larson, a former Union County social worker who had been caring for the boy, agreed to a plea deal and was sentenced to 17 months in prison. She was released in April.

Larson's boyfriend, Dorian Harper, was sentenced to at least six years in prison.

Boy tortured in DSS care is going home to mom

DAVIDSON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - —

The boy who suffered at the hands of a DSS supervisor and an ER nurse is going home to his mom. WBTV first reported about the now 13-year-old boy when a Union County sheriff deputy found him handcuffed to a porch with a dead chicken around his neck in November of 2013.

Dorian Harper was sentenced to at least six years in prison, Wanda Sue Larson served her time and is free, but the boy who was tortured in their home remains in DSS custody.

Wednesday, Maria Harris was in Davidson County court to learn where her son would live next. Harris is the mom in this case and she's asked WBTV continue to refer to her son as Michael.

Michael's 5th grade graduation was Wednesday, but Harris couldn't be at school because she was in court hoping that she could bring him home.

2. But the "Mom" was NOT the person who cuffed or put the chicken around his neck,

He was removed from the Mother's home when he was three years old, The Child then lived with his Mother's sister till an incident of abuse involving another child in the Sister's care occurred and seeing the condition of his teeth the Child was then removed and placed into the care of a DSS worker. DSS stand for Division of Social Services of North Carolina.

The Child was under the care of DSS when he was handcuffed and a chicken wrapped around his neck. In fact he was in the care of a DSS Supervisor (Larson) when the incident occurred. It is that supervisor who was just released from jail, the man (Harper) she was living with is still in jail for the incident.

Union County prosecutors said in the past Harris' son was tortured. He was burned, beaten and tied up during the day and when he slept in Harper and Larson's home.
