Sikh brutally assaulted in US ahead of 9/11 anniversary

An elderly Sikh man was brutally injured and called “terrorist” and “Bin Laden” in an apparent hate crime case in Chicago, just days before the U.S. commemorates the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Inderjit Singh Mukker was assaulted on Tuesday when the assailant pulled up to his car yelling racial slurs, including, “Terrorist, go back to your country, Bin Laden!”

Mr. Mukker, a U.S. citizen and father of two, was on his way to a grocery store and was repeatedly cut off by a driver. He pulled over to the side of the road to let him pass but the driver instead pulled in front of his car and aggressively approached Mr. Mukker’s vehicle, according to information by the Sikh Coalition, a community-based organisation said.

The assailant then reached into the car and repeatedly punched Mr. Mukker in the face, causing him to lose consciousness, bleed profusely and suffer a fractured cheekbone and a laceration to his cheek.

The reports around the world, (not reported in Chicago newspapers at 3:53am central time) are saying this happened in Chicago. I was wondering which neighborhood this happened in, because I like and know Chicago. It turns out it was in a suburb..The suburban newspaper, "The Herald" had nothing in on this, but, your link is one of the only ones that say it was a suburb, not even in Cook County which contains the city and many other suburbs.

I suppose each has its own culture just like different precincts in the CPD.

i just couldn't see this crime going down in Chicago but you know unfortunately you can never say never and I doubt anything has changed in the Darien area .When I had business out that way a few years ago , it seemed it was all republican tea-baggers . The voting records I checked after experiencing it confirmed the majority but just like Chicago not everyone is the same in any place.

Hope this case is followed through as a hate crime

is a truly ugly thing. The latter often causing the former. And a lack of empathy for the human conidition. This is why Mr. Mukker is so right and that Hate Crime laws exist should exist for cases like these. It's not simply for punishment but to establish an extra deterrent effect due to a pervasive precipitating cause(ethnic,religious or racial hatred) of this type of crime.

9. There are Sikhs here

in NYC and everytime I see one I feel concerned for them - because of asshats like these. Several years ago, a Sikh was assaulted with a baseball bat just a few blocks from where I live but I don't know if they ever caught the perp(s).
