Venezuela opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez sentenced
Source: BBC
Prominent Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez has been sentenced to 13 years and nine months in prison.
He was found guilty of inciting violence during protests in 2014 in which 43 people - from both sides of the political divide - were killed.
The 44-year-old had been held in a military prison since February 2014.
While the court verdict was being awaited, fighting broke out between his supporters and pro-government activists outside the courthouse in Caracas.

He'd better keep his Presidential jet fueled and ready to skeedaddle. The day of reckoning will come for him, and it will be entirely home grown.

Of course, you won't hear that coming from the Chavista useful idiots in this forum. They all eat up all the BS propaganda from the Chavista regime that Leopoldo is some terrorist or some CIA operative or what-have-you, and will probably think it was a fair trial, but then again, even international observers were denied entry to the trial itself.
We'll see how this plays out. One thing for sure though is that at this point, Lopez's "Mandelization" is complete, and when he gets out of jail, he'll be the next president.

(2,035 posts)Don't think that we don't know why we're running out of food. It's obviously because of the inept and corrupt government we have and the senseless policies they're implementing that no other country in the world is even considering. The reason that Maduro has stayed in power is simply because he and the rest of the PSUV leadership have bought off all the other political institutions that should be independent from the executive power (this including the Electoral Center and the Supreme Court) and because they have all the guns. If there had been any real dignity left in the Supreme Court, we probably would've gotten rid of Maduro the same year he got elected like Guatemala just did with their president.
