A hunter who killed a jaguar in Ecuador's Amazon rainforest was sentenced to six months in prison, officials announced Friday, in a case echoing the deadly shooting Cecil the Lion in Zimbabwe.

Ecuador's Environment Ministry said Friday that the hunter posted a picture on Facebook of the slaughtered big cat.

. . .

Initially, a court had imposed a penalty of just 10 days in prison for the shooting, but environment officials launched a successful appeal.

"We obtained a longer sentence for the person responsible for the intentional killing of an animal that is in danger of extinction," the environment ministry said.

have such a big ego-----------------because we are a species that don't get along with anything and we have self serving ego for greatness----------------we really are stupid.

And six months is not long enough----------------that cat is gone forever

global neoliberal economic and political control in 40 years, including refusal to end fossil fuel reliance and curb climate change has determined our undisputed doomed fate as a species. The good earth's response to the extreme, relentless plundering and exploitation from greed will be cruel and deserved, sorry to say. The vanity of advanced apes with IPODs will not prevail and is adverse to every natural function and norm of life on the planet.

It's a start, at least. I really hope that the world at large is beginning to understand that trophy hunting is elitism at its most, it is unnecessary, and it is cruel, and it is harmful. I hope the public trend of shaming and despising those that engage in trophy hunting will continue so that the activity is despised everywhere.

They need to have a calf. The cows are constantly in a cycle of being pregnant and giving birth. They are always artificially inseminated. If the cow births a male, it will be sent to slaughter as veal. After about 4-6 years of a life of producing milk for humans, the cow is then slaughterd for meat.

I'd love to see a court require the guilty to care for any cubs who were orphaned by his/her actions (or indeed any litter of orphaned young). At least on a financial or zoological basis. Not as future targets.

But then again, that would be beyond the capabilities of most of these ammo-sexuals.

an animal like this? Doesn't feed anyone or accomplish anything.

Seems like a coward's idea of excitement.
