Source: CNN

Eight people died and five others are missing after a flash flood washed away vehicles at the Utah/Arizona border, the Hildale, Utah, fire department said.

All the victims are mothers and small children, Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Barlow said. The youngest child was about 4 years old.

The flooding ravaged a community that straddles the border from Hildale, Utah, to Colorado City, Arizona.

Did it once when driving in mexico, the water was rushing fast but not deep over a road. Pushed the back end of my car almost off the road. Was one of those 'very close calls' in life for me.

as having an instantaneous torrent. There is no slow build-up of water as in other flood situations. It's more like a mini land-based tsunami.

A big gully, no rain near us but I was out exploring and heard a noise. Walked over to see what was causing it.

A huge torrent of water at least 8-10 feet high came down that gully. It was amazing and I've never forgotten that lesson.
