New poll: Donald Trump still leads, but Ben Carson makes strong gains

Source: CBS News

At 27 percent nationally, Donald Trump maintains his frontrunner status among Republican primary voters, but Ben Carson is now close behind him, a new CBS News/New York Times poll finds.

Carson's support has risen significantly since early August, from 6 percent then, to 23 percent now, putting him in second place. John Kasich and Carly Fiorina have also seen their support rise in this poll, although both remain in single digits.

Some candidates have not fared as well, losing support since August. Jeb Bush (six percent) and Scott Walker (two percent) have now dropped into single digits in this poll. Rick Perry, who announced he was withdrawing his candidacy while the poll was in progress, receives just one percent of Republican primary voters' backing.

2. Seems Trump is plateauing at about 30 %, Carson is consolidating the anti-Trump vote.

Who knows if it can stay this way or if Carson will eventually collapse and voters will go to somebody else.

Also note the ridiculously small sample size and the MOE (+- 6%). This makes any comment on the 14 candidates downstream absolutely useless.

I know this is not the narrative that the media want to hear, but while Trump votes go up compared to polls from July, they are fairly flat compared to polls from early August. So really, the question becomes : who will consolidate the 70 % remaining. As of now, it seems to be Carson.

And Trump is the second choice of Carson voters. So if one of them drops the other should rise if that is true.

6. The GOP will never put Carson on their ticket - his personality is slower than a sloth

I'm guessing they are just rotating the question order on their polls and half of the idiots who respond from the Republican side just pick the first name - because the letter 'A' is next to it.

Unfortunately for them, it is even uglier than last time and their true personna is front and center.

Carson and Trump are the two with the least political experience and I think the support for them is more of a vote against the other candidates. I would not be surprised to see Fiorina rising as well for the same 'outsider' reason.

Last month the MSM said that Carly Fiorina was catching up behind Trump. I'm going with the true winner of this race: Don't Know!
