Family adjusting to Ahmed Mohamed's sudden fame as police announce no charges for clock deemed 'hoax

Source: Dallas Morning News

The Irving police chief said charges won't be filed against Ahmed Mohamed, the MacArthur High School freshman arrested Monday after he brought what school officials and police described as a “hoax bomb” on campus.

At a press conference this morning, Chief Larry Boyd said the device -- confiscated by an English teacher despite the teen's insistence that it was a clock -- was “certainly suspicious in nature.”

“The student showed the device to a teacher, who was concerned that it was possibly the infrastructure for a bomb,” Boyd said.

School officers questioned Ahmed about the device and why Ahmed had brought it to school. Boyd said Ahmed was then handcuffed “for his safety and for the safety of the officers” and taken to a juvenile detention center. He was later released to his parents, Boyd said.

But even in the schools that do have them, they're often not located in a location convenient for every class.

In this boy's case, he first took the clock to his science/engineering teacher, but he still had it with him in English class.

Ahmed Mohamed: Barack Obama invites detained Muslim teenager to take his clock to the White House

President Barack Obama has voiced his support for the 14-year-old Muslim teenager arrested by police after taking a homemade clock to school.

As reports said police from Irving, Texas, had decided they would not charge Ahmed Mohamed with making a hoax bomb - as his family had been told they might - Mr Obama invited the teenager to take his clock to the White House.

"Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House?," he said.

"We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great."

I don't think a lawsuit would be the right thing. I think he should take his bow as an admired teenager with approval from thinking people. Be gracious in victory.
