Democratic Fundraisers And Activists Call On Joe Biden To Jump Into 2016 Race

Nearly 50 Democratic donors and party activists have signed a letter urging Vice President Biden to jump into the 2016 presidential race to compete against former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, calling him a leader "who understands the real challenges facing American families."
The letter -- whose signatories include some top bundlers for President Obama's campaigns -- underscores a nervousness among some in the party about Clinton's standing and a building hope that Biden will decide to run.
Some, such as party fundraiser Lou Frillman, had already signed up to help Clinton's campaign.
"We believe that the vice president is the best candidate," Frillman said in an interview. "We have a lot of confidence in him....If he runs, were ready to support him."

(3,373 posts)protections that Trump has taken advantage of,
(2) think the banks should not have to worry about pesky regulation,
(3) think that federally subsidized women's health clinics should not be able to offer the full range of legal and constitutionally protected reproductive health care services,
(4) think that there should be stiff mandatory penalties for those who are convicted of drug possession, and
(5) think that we need a hawkish, pro-military foreign policy.
I don't share those values, but I'm sure there are 50 people with checkbooks who do.

(199 posts)They are not looking for someone to run against Clinton, but more looking for someone to run against Sanders.

(2,586 posts)He lost his son and he doesn't have the energy to do it. The only people who want him to run are the establishment Dems and the media (to poke fun at his supposed gaffs).

(1,782 posts)I don't think Biden will jump in unless Hillary jumps out before primary voting begins. If both ran, they'd compete for the same votes and make things easier for Bernie.

(6,994 posts)answer to the same corporate purse strings as Obama did and Hillary will have to.
So we will have two corporatists in the running for the Democratic nomination.
With Bernie Sander's strong message I think he could still win the nomination.
So then if Biden gets in and Bernie is still leading in Iowa,NH and getting close to Super Tuesday and he is doing well what then?
What do the deep pockets contributors do?

(25,183 posts)and all it would take is one Justice Department indictment, or two smoking guns in the deleted emails that were not 'wiped', and Joe will jump in with both feet. The establishment does not want to see Sanders get the nomination, they view him as a McGovern.

(4,280 posts)Hillary is having. They are not honoring Vice President Bidens' stated personal reasons for not entering the race.
Plus they must be scared to death a "Democratic Socialist" might throw a monkey wrench into the Big Oil/Wall Street game. What? Sanders doesn't understand "the real challenges facing American families"? They know too well that he does, as shown by his growing numbers.
Yeah, this makes me very angry and I'll make another donation to Sanders before next week ends.

(5,400 posts)If some in the party want to have some short/medium term insurance against HRC being rejected by the public then they have to buy it now. It takes time to put even the frame of a campaign in place and the optics are terrible, and inflammatory and divisive, if you wait till you think you really need him.
They're doing the needed talk and lining up of cash. Behind the scenes, the required staff is maybe being felt out. If their nerves steady, and they feel more confident about Secretary Clinton, then this shadowy support can just disappear.
If it comes to pass that Biden will run, then he can hit the ground running. There won't be as much controversy over it, as there would be otherwise, because it won't look like parts of the party's establishment has panicked. It will just be Joe finally deciding to enter the fray.
This is what it looks like to me.

(249 posts)It ticks me off that Joe is being used as a tool -for the 1%. We are a county of 300+ million people, surely we can find anyone else but a Clinton or Bush who can run for President! The only thing that makes me happy is while "corporations are people" (and can give millions) we still get one vote-and they get none. NONE!

(15,241 posts)I think corporations also do a lot of "in-house" indoctrinations. I've worked for several multi-billion $ giants that put out internal communications that hint at the right way to vote. Remember the scare tactics used before that "We'll have to cut our workforce if the ACA passes"?
Bernie's method of getting us little people to support him and to be active in the process is fantastic. If we can truly turn the tide on how elections are bought, I think it will stay turned for a long time.

(19,089 posts)Hillary would be sailing fast and free, and I would grudgingly support her to avoid a GOP administration.
But .. This is the Season of Bernie Sanders, who launched like a rocket instead of sailing like a dingy ...
Biden doesn't have the heart for it ... I love Joe and his gaffes, but I haven't forgotten the bankruptcy bill ...
Still, I love the guy .. gaffes and all .... Loving Hillary is a little more difficult (for me) ...

(5,811 posts)who has the skills and history and PRESENCE to take over the reins from PBO and that's VP Joe Biden. There's so many of us waiting and hoping that he will get in. But I think we're also prepared to vote for one of the other DEM candidates if necessary.
With a Republican president we would get civil war.
