'Mistress' of Slain Houston Police Deputy Was In Patrol Car at Gas Station
Source: The London Daily Mail 13:51 EST, 20 Sept 2015
A witness to the murder of a police deputy was in a 'romantic relationship' with the married officer and was in his patrol car when he was gunned down at a gas station, according to court documents.Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth, 47, was shot as he filled his patrol car with gasoline at a suburban Houston convenience store on August 28.
Shannon Miles, 30, was arrested the following day and has been charged with capital murder.
Now, according to court documents dated September 16, a witness to the murder was allegedly having an affair with the father-of-two for 15 months until his death.
ABC13 reported the woman, who has not been named, took a polygraph test and gave statements that have now been handed to defense attorneys.
Miless defense attorney Anthony Osso said he was aware of the filing, but it is too soon to tell what it may mean for his clients case.
But he said his office were not responsible for the document's release.
He told the Chronicle: 'I specifically didn't want to air it out. I don't want to try this case in the media.'
ABC13 reporters had also apparently spoken to witnesses who said a woman had been seen crying over Goforths body on the night of his death.

My post, once again was...Well, well, well is right.
There was more going on than him just being shot, as only reported by the MSM...and who said it had anything to do with his killing? Did I say that? Please show where I said ANYTHING to that effect.

(4,144 posts)the houston station was bending over backwards to spologize while they did the story. maybe the perp thought it was a dirty cop getting a sex act performed on him by a hooker in the patrol car (spitballing possible motives here)

(33,982 posts)And that's super sad, because if they gave the mistress a lie detector test (lol that's a whole other can of worms) what did they do to the widow?
Imagine that shit, losing your partner and then finding out, by way of police questioning, that your partner was cheating on you? (Presumably they weren't in an open relationship or they wouldn't have called the other woman a 'mistress' right?)

(21,712 posts)How does this in any way affect the facts of the murder? The cops should check this out on the downlow, while protecting the victim and the witness.
Honestly, how many witnesses back out when they realize the consequences of their identity and their actions being trumpeted in the press. In Canada, it is illegal for information about suspects, witnesses and testimonies to be publicized until (and unless) there is a conviction. Makes sense to me.

(4,462 posts)However, nothing would not stop responsible journalists from adopting voluntary codes of conduct to prevent such salacious disclosures unrelated to the crime itself, in a manner similar to how virtually all reporters voluntarily will not release the names of rape victims.

(15,882 posts)want to sneak around and do things behind closed doors - especially our cops that murder unarmed black folks, it appears. It was wildly popular with the secret police, the Stasi, in East Germany, and with some folks here, it appears.
If there was a relationship between his mistress and the shooter it would raise large questions about the "hero being killed by some random person".
And people don't ask nearly enough questions about the cops here,

As you said, there is zero connection of the affair to the murderer.

(1,727 posts)criticized unprofessional and overly aggressive policing in the US were directly responsible for creating a"hostile environment" against police officers and hence responsible for the deputy's death?
If there hadn't been a bunch of people using Deputy Goforth's death to advance a political agenda, then I doubt anybody would be "smearing" his reputation by speculating about the circumstances of his well-publicized demise.
