15 prisoners, driver hurt in Phoenix-area police van crash

Source: AP

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — A police transport van collided with a dump truck on a suburban Phoenix freeway Wednesday, injuring 15 prisoners.

Mesa Fire Department officials said five inmates and the van's driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash that happened around noon Wednesday.

They were transported to hospitals as a precaution. The 10 other prisoners were treated at the scene for minor to moderate injuries.

Another Mesa police employee was in the van, which authorities say was broadsided by a dump truck that swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle. Authorities say that person wasn't hurt.

FULL story at link.

This story has been corrected to show that five inmates and the driver suffered serious injuries, not six inmates, and that authorities say the crash was not a rollover crash.

Look at that man standing on top. Now try to imagine 25 people crammed into that vehicle. That's like immigrant cramming small. No chance they all were belted in-or maybe they don't buckle in prisoners in AZ cause, you know, they're all so worthless as people. Hope one if them sues.

ETA: 15 total prisoners not 25. Still that's some tight cramming.

The cab part is crushed up against the flat bed truck that broadsided it. The rescue workers are standing on the van part that the prisoners were riding in. There are better photos of it and better angles in other news reports. It is even clearer in those photos how cramped and claustrophibic it looks for transporting 15 men.

There are better photos of the entire van in other news reports. This one is the only one with a man on top of it to provide the scale to show how sardine-like the van had to be packed to get 15 men in it.

The driver just didn't care enough to protect their own life so he/she drove poorly to injure the prisoners. The driver doesn't care about the prisoners so the driver will most likely face disciplinary action if the accident was his/her fault because the driver WANTED to have an accident. Good lord.

You have any idea how silly your post is?

The cops over load a vehicle causing a dangerous situation for a population they Fully disdain and they don't value one bit. BTW: Another cop apologist just attacked me and got their post hidden! All cops have an "us-vs-them" attitude If you're not a cop you're probably an enemy.

I was on that jury and voted to hide even though I thought you deserved the retort.

I love so-called liberals who use generalizations..."All cops" etc... such nonsense.

Have a great day "buddy."

I am an immigrant (who had achieve their citizenship through a test, did you?) so make fun of my spelling and command of English. This is the fourth language I have had to learn. (How many have you had to learn?) To me that shows ethno-centricity

No way to know on a message board what anyone's ethnicity or background is, but if you want to accuse me of ethnocentricity you go right ahead. Really, that is too darn funny.

Judging from your other posts, you sure got command of Anglo-Saxon profanity pretty darn fast.

Oh, and my parents were immigrants. I'm first generation.

I don't believe in generalizations, and I know good cops personally.

You sound angry. Are your shoes too tight? Teeth hurt?

Have a good day "buddy."

being an immigrant a) I had to learn a different language b) I had to EARN my citizenship, (yours was handed to you and given with out any effort on your part!) I also know a VERY, VERY few decent cops, but the absolute, overwhelming vast majority are power hungry assholes who when ever they can get away with run roughshod over the civil liberties of others.

because of the way the vehicle was loaded, not because they were suggesting the crash was on purpose.
