Obama renews efforts to sell Mexico on ‘swift conclusion’ to Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement

Source: Raw Story

U.S. President Barack Obama and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto discussed in a phone call on Wednesday the importance of swiftly concluding a Pacific trade deal, the White House said.

“They discussed the status of the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations and the importance of bringing the negotiations to a swift conclusion,” the White House said in a statement.

TPP trade ministers failed to clinch a deal at a meeting in late July, but the negotiators said an agreement among the 12 Pacific Rim nations was within reach.

Won't vote for anyone who is for it. And won't be impressed in the least if Hillary conveeeniently says she is against it.
She shilled for it waaaay too many times for me to ever get taken in now. I believe she referred to it as "the gold standard", in her last book.

Incomprehensible. To push this at all, let alone at a time the 99 percent feel that much more disenfranchised from the democratic process.

NAFTA was the nail in the coffin of American manufacturing. TPP must be negotiating for the crumbs.

agreements give corporations power over countries. This is why that "poor Vietnamese farmer" shtick did not resonate - we are all heading down with the farmer, he is not being raised up. The only redistribution of anything will be amongst ourselves, what the corporations get will increase, and what we will earn will decrease. And any pesky environmental regulations will be trashed down to the lowest level.

What evidence is there that NAFTA has hurt or upset him in any way?

My point: We say things like "this will haunt them" but it really only haunts us.

In the end, Bill is now among the 1% so it probably doesn't matter to him one way or the other.
