Short-Term Spending Bill Defunding Planned Parenthood Blocked In Senate

Source: TPM

Senate Democrats and a handful of Republicans filibustered Thursday a vote on a short-term spending bill that would have defunded Planned Parenthood. Not only did the the legislation fail to gain the 60 votes necessary for it to move forward, a bipartisan majority -- 52 to 47 -- voted against it.

Eight Republicans -- including Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) -- joined Democrats in blocking the legislation.

GOP leaders had reportedly hoped that the vote would be enough to assuage conservatives threatening a government shutdown over the $500 million or so in federal funding that goes to the reproductive health organization.

(snip)
According to Politico's Seung Min Kim, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has told members the Senate will hold a vote on Monday for a "clean" temporary spending bill that would maintain government funding -- including Planned Parenthood's -- at its current levels for a few months while a larger budget deal is worked out.

really are dysfunctional.
McConnell wants to fund the government for how long, ten days, ten months, ten minutes, ten seconds.
While he sits back and makes $225,000 a year-------------doing exactly what------------------running into his office to see how much he got from a PAC or other people that just don't care and trying to play doctor with human beings lives-----------amazing.

This gambit that he and Boehnor are using, is costing this country millions of dollars, if I buy a car its either with cash, or on credit, and if it's on credit is depends on credit rating and how long-----------------this short term gambit is just amazing-----bond's and treasury funds are effected by this c***************p, because we the taxpayers have to pay for this stuff, and the world markets and governments just shake there heads watching this country do what-------------------basically nothing---------------but go for some short term what.

This is just insane and we got over 13 months more of this stuff-----------------just think thirteen more months.
And then when February comes rolling around it's another bunch of Congressional funding games --------------amazing

Good luck with that, ass hats.....when the PP smear is fully exposed I hope it takes your whole fucked up party with you....it would be sweet justice to go from the inexplicably successful ACORN smear to the PP smear done in identical criminal fashion being the final undoing of a failed political party.

6. News headlines should tell what PP really does, like...

...from Nicholas Kristoff’s article in NYT “…This in a country where half of all pregnancies are unintended, where 30 percent of American teenage girls become pregnant by age 19.

The Guttmacher Institute, which studies reproductive health, calculates that Title X family planning centers (PP) prevent about one million unintended pregnancies a year, of which 345,000 would have ended in abortion. It says that every year Title X clinics (PP) avert some 53,000 cases of chlamydia and 8,800 cases of gonorrhea, and save the lives of 1,100 women who would otherwise die of cervical cancer.

In other words, Title X prevents an abortion about once every 90 seconds...."
This should be shoved in the faces of all those ignorant or misinformed senators who voted to defund Planned Parenthood as they have no idea how much good this organization really does.
PP prevents 345,000 abortions per year...per year. Those trying to defund it should be called pro abortion advocates. No other group or organization can claim to prevent any where near that many abortions every year. Get the word out as these republicans are just ignorant and playing politics to win votes.

... surely they don't have time in their busy job creating schedules to drag out this tired trick with the fake videos and the fake outrage and the very real destruction of organizations that help living, breathing Americans?

Oh, right.

He is big on the "defund Planned Parenthood" bandwagon. Must've voted against it for other reasons.

He probably is guessing there's no stopping the House Crazies from implementing another embarrassment for the party; he's hedging his bets against the tidal wave of public rage about to roll their way would be my guess...
