Pope Declares a 'Right of the Environment' at U.N.
Source: NBCNews.com
Pope Francis declared before the United Nations on Friday that there is a fundamental "right of the environment" and that mankind has no authority to abuse it, much less destroy it.
At the General Assembly, the largest gathering of dignitaries in the world, Francis said that the environment is a "fundamental good" in all religions, and that a "selfish and boundless thirst" for power and wealth harms the planet and the weakest among people.

(23,867 posts)I have wanted to have an exchange with anyone who has witnessed it. Although it really amounts to a personal thing now. My backyard was just logged, and I thought it was off limits. From beauty to trashed.
What people don't get, and I hope the pope addresses this, is that it's personal behavior. Not only is lumber criminally cheap, but people don't realize that when they use lumber, they're actually taking a forest apart.

Saving the environment is a moral issue. Every person and every other living thing on this planet depends on it.
We need to start living in harmony with our Mother Earth rather than exploiting her for our own greed.
