New York: President Obama will meet with Cuban counterpart Raul Castro at the United Nations on Tuesday to discuss the emerging relationship between the United States and Cuba.
It will be the second face-to-face meeting between Mr Obama and Mr Castro since the US and Cuba restored diplomatic relations in late 2014. The two also spoke by phone earlier this month, before the visit of Pope Francis to both Cuba and the United States.
In a schedule update released Sunday, the White House confirmed Mr Obama would also hold one-on-one meetings with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a potentially tense session with Russia President Vladimir Putin.
Mr Castro, speaking at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on Saturday, hailed renewed diplomatic ties with the United States, describing them as "major progress". However he also slammed a US trade embargo, saying it was the main obstacle to Cuba's economic development.
