DETROIT, MI - Voting is set to end Wednesday on a proposed, four-year contract between the UAW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
A representative for the UAW declined to comment Monday until all ballots have been cast, but so far reports indicate the tentative agreement for the some 40,000 workers could be in jeopardy.
The Detroit Free Press reports that UAW Local 7 in Detroit was just the latest to handily vote down the measure. Of the local's workforce, who build the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango at FCA's Jefferson North Assembly Plant, 66 percent of production workers voted against it and 77 percent of skilled trade workers voted it down.
It was only the latest of FCA's larger plants to reject the measure as about one third of the total UAW-FCA labor force has yet to vote. If the agreement is voted down, UAW and FCA could return to the negotiating table, or the UAW could instead lead new talks with General Motors or Ford Motor Co., according to the Free Press.
