A long-simmering campaign among conservative activists to draft Rep. Trey Gowdy into a House leadership post has suddenly re-emerged in the scramble following House Speaker John A. Boehner’s resignation.

A movement to pull Gowdy into the race for majority leader began to rapidly pick up momentum Tuesday morning, with several Republican members from across the ideological spectrum saying they have personally asked the South Carolina Republican to jump into the contest.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and a Gowdy friend, kicked off the calls on Fox News Channel Tuesday morning: “If you want the best person to make the Republican case, if you want the best person to talk about why conservatism is the right answer for America, Trey Gowdy is our best foot forward.”

Meanwhile, Texas Rep. Pete Sessions — the former head of the National Republican Congressional Committee and ex-House Rules Committee chair — threw his hat into the ring for the job of majority whip. Reps. Patrick McHenry (N.C.) and Dennis Ross (Fla.) are also competing for the third-ranked leadership job. Rep. Markwayne Mullin (Okla.) is a possible candidate.

Actually this should be fun to watch. We all just have to wait until Fox News allocates out the positions.

He is goofy and dumb so please make this whack job majority leader. He is so nutty
that even w/all the gerrymandering the dems could take back the House.

An omnipotent God could not have made this atrocious mistake unless he had a wrapped sense of humor.

Along with the 14-18 stupids running in this party for president.

I understand that the eventual goal is the complete evisceration of government so the capitalists can continue unencumbered.

But couldn't you plutocrats just be a little more subtle about your disdain of the country?

was governor of PA. It was a different time but he would play w/the kids in the neighborhood,
he was left alone to visit his family, he was great guy, he was for education, the environment,
civil rights, infrastructure, unions, and "the common good" too. BTW he was a republican too.

He would have no home in the republican party today and he would have had zero time for
Trey Gowdy too because he very very smart and liked to get things done.

The party of Abe Lincoln, Ike, and Margaret Chase Smith has become the party of helping
the rich, hurting the common good, and religious whack jobs

and the vast majority of citizens and office holders were decent and caring.

Something happened along the way to polarize everyone into two (or more) camps. Personally I can't identify this as coming from the left/liberal side but it's possible. Perhaps it came via the need of the media to get more eyeballs/advertising.

If we're lucky they will split into a whacko and a normal group and we can get back to real business.
