Indiana House Majority Leader Resigns After Apologetic Text

Source: ABC News

A ranking Republican lawmaker abruptly resigned from the Indiana House after sending a text message apology for "anything offensive" that may have been sent from his cellphone.

House Majority Leader Jud McMillin of Brookville said in a statement Tuesday that he was giving up his seat to focus on his family.

The move comes a week after McMillin texted multiple people stating that his cellphone had been stolen and apologizing for messages they may have received from his number. Details about the content of those messages have not been revealed.

"My phone was stolen 24 hours ago in Canada. I have just been able to reactivate it under my control," reads the text, which was obtained by The Associated Press. "Please disregard any messages you received recently. I am truly sorry for anything offensive you may have received."

wouldn't he deactivate it by calling the wireless company? Especially as it was not in the US -- if someone used it he could be liable for the calls I think.

My brother just got a refurbished cell phone from a warranty exchange, the phone had a factory reset but they did not erase or remove the SD card... so he had a phone full of pictures of a fugly couple of rednecks getting it on in a stained bed with a confederate flag in the background. Which made him not really want to touch the phone.

This has happened to him twice, years ago he got a refurbished Blackberry that had an SD card full of pictures of a guy's dick and marijuana.

Why would anyone who was not absolutely deranged have something like that on a device that is so easily lost, stolen or broken?

First, the casual individual in Canada doesn't know/care about our state law makers. Second, how many times has 'focus on my family' meant 'I got caught having an affair'? Sounds like an acquaintance kept/stole his cell phone and started blowing his cover to others outside his inner circle in position to expose him (maybe I should use quotes around 'inner circle' and 'expose' - those republicans can really get their freaks on when away from home). If I came home and announced to my wife I was quitting my career because someone stole my cell phone and started sending out offensive texts, she would tell me that couch potato is not a career and quit being a dumb sh..! His wife needs to replace his phone with one of those old cell phones which were as brick, and then break it over his head. Those republican family values are something else!

I guess one should not shake hands with a republican because you do not know where they have been
