Troy Newman: Anti-abortion activist detained after flying to Melbourne despite visa cancellation
Source: ABC News Australia
American anti-abortion activist Troy Newman has been detained at Melbourne Airport, after travelling to Australia even though his visa had been cancelled.
Mr Newman, who has questioned why doctors who abort babies are not executed, had his visa cancelled by the Immigration Department yesterday and was stopped from getting on a flight in Denver.
......
Mr Newman is the head of anti-abortion organisation Operation Rescue and was due to speak at events run by the group Right to Life Australia around Australia.
He said the revocation of his visa yesterday was "based on a pile of lies, including the idea that I promote violence".

This is a follow-up to the thread I posted yesterday regarding Mr. Newman: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10141220395
It seems Mr. Newman is quite the glutton for punishment. Either that, or he's hoping he's now earned his plate of freshly-baked martyr cookies.

(950 posts)that the Australian authorities will deport him back to the US in short order, and while I'm no expert in international immigration law, I wouldn't be shocked to see the authorities there basically slap a travel ban on Mr. Newman from ever entering the country again - a persona non grata kind of thing (presuming Australia can do that under their laws - I know the UK does, and they've used it before against the likes of Louis Farrakhan and Pamela Geller and a few others).

"Through a chain of events the Lord has allowed me to get on a plane in spite of many objections by the airlines and Australia. we have been in the air 11 hours and will land in about 4. "
