Sanders Nearly Matches Clinton In Fundraising For Third Quarter

Source: Washington Post

By Matea Gold and John Wagner September 30 at 10:48 PM

Former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton’s front-runner status in the Democratic presidential primary fight was jolted Wednesday by a new and unexpected vulnerability: a financial one.

The more than $28 million that Clinton’s campaign announced Wednesday it had raised in the third quarter was nearly matched by the $26 million that Sen. Bernie Sanders brought in, thanks to small contributions that came in for him at a faster clip than even in President Obama’s campaigns.

As the midnight deadline loomed to collect third-quarter donations, Sanders’s passionate supporters raced to expand his total, raising the possibility that he might finish the quarter with more money in the bank than Clinton.

The ability of the senator from Vermont — who has largely eschewed wealthy backers and fancy fundraisers — to compete with Clinton’s four-decade-old donor network could drastically alter the dynamics of the primary contest.

Bernie represents The People. Hillary was on TV yesterday in a cerise silk shantung suit and big jewelry. She dresses like she is attending a fundraiser for the Met. Opera in NY. This is her milieu. She keeps on wearing one very expensive flashy outfit after another.
Who is she trying to reach out to, it's not the rest of us 99%ers. This is a message. She does not dress seriously like someone prepared to command the ship of state, but is all flash and glitter. This is a message.

for wearing an Armani or Donna Karan suit?

This is pretty transparent stuff--reducing a female candidate to her wardrobe "the clothes tell the whole story."

Last time I can recall it happening was when Bill Clinton went after Jerry Brown and his "$800 suits."

Note the comments about "big jewelry" and "flashy." They're the corollary to "pant suits pant suits nyah nyah nyah."

There's a reason I have the primary forum in my trash can--stuff like this, talking about Bernie's love life in the 60's, Vince Foster crapola get a pass from a lot of people.

the post was intended to slam her "elitism". Just as obnoxious, but not sexist in my view.

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Thu Oct 1, 2015, 09:54 AM, and voted 0-7 to LEAVE IT ALONE.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: You could easily make this argument about an inappropriately-dressed male candidate, like Mitt Romney.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Tough call. I agree with the alerter but this could be a teachable moment to the poster. Time enough to find out if poster is a troll or not.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The post is classist, not sexist (Mario Cuomo once won a debate by commenting on an opponents expensive watch). Yes, it's obnoxious; no, it doesn't cross the line.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The issue of sexism should be dealt with in a reply to the post that the alerter found offensive.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Sorry alerter, but I fail to see the "sexism" in the post. Is it sexism when Bernie is criticized for his hair or clothes? Perhaps it's simply time to grow up and turn to discussion of issues that matter..

Looks like we can expect cracks about 'cankles' next, apparently sexism is aok.

No it doesn't; which means there's a GREATER gap between money for her and money for Sanders.
