Three women temporarily barred from Jaguars locker room after the Colts game

Source: Indianapolis Star

Three women reporters were temporarily barred from entering the Jacksonville Jaguars locker room following the team’s game against the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.

Graham Watson of Yahoo Sports, Joey Chandler of the Tuscaloosa News and the Tulsa World’s Katie McInerney were not allowed to enter the locker room by someone they described as an usher.

... According to Watson and Chandler, after the man stopped them, he started asking people if they were allowed in the locker room, delaying their entry for two to three minutes. Someone with the Jaguars eventually told him they were allowed in, according to the women. “Never ever have I had someone stop me from going into a locker room I was allowed to go into,” Watson said. “I’ve covered events all over the world. I was stunned. I was angry.

... The women were at the game as part of an APSE diversity fellowship weekend.

the last I heard men are barred from women's locker rooms, as they should be. At least common sense prevails there. I guess the men in their locker rooms aren't as well respected.

But the same rules should apply to both the men's and women's locker rooms.

Putting to rest the myth that women’s teams don’t let male reporters into the locker room:

Perhaps as women's sports have become more common, fair rules have become established.

He holds them up for a couple of minutes to double check their access privileges. This is what good security does - don't allow badges or verbal OKs until you have made sure they are legit. Big Deal. I was held up from going onstage for my own concert, while security checked. If they whine over a three minute delay, they need a reality check.

Hard-charging up-and-comers should not be inconvenienced by people like that...

But yeah, I'm reading tempest in a teapot here; pretty sure worse things have happened to me today, and I've barely even left my house!

of the players, not some degenerate, 'money-bags' owners. It makes no sense anyway.

That the old geezer had standards and should be admired, not patronised. When standards of behaviour are continually allowed to slip, you end up with a dystopian, depraved country. Reminds me of the harridan journalist who called out in that gin-sodden croak, 'Mr Clinton, did you make love to, blah blah.'

by anyone. they just finished a game, tired and sweaty, give them 20 minutes to shower and decompress for cripe sake.

this business of having to be the first to get the big quote is ridiculous. its sports.

it is the nature of 1%ers to feel everyone is their tool. toss in a little athletic bravado, and your quote makes perfect sense.

and that article is much more sympathetic to the Colts organization than other accounts I have read, which included the guy who wouldn't allow them into the locker room saying he didn't want to let them in because "you know how men are: or something akin to that.

Women have fought to have equal access to athletes. Whether you like that writers interview athletes in a locker room, women deserve to be there as much as their male colleagues, who have had that same access for many years. This is a decision the NFL and its teams have agreed to

"The women were at the game as part of the Associated Press Sports Editors sports media diversity weekend. Other female ASPE fellows were also denied entry, according to Chandler. The Colts have since offered an apology.
