Cat shot by arrow upgraded to excellent condition

Source: Detroit News

A cat called “Booger” is “in very good spirits” Wednesday after he was shot with a crossbow arrow and underwent surgery to remove the bolt, according to the Lansing humane society providing treatment.

The orange-and-white tabby, which previously was nicknamed “Kitty” by rescuers but named “Booger” by his owner, was found around 10 a.m. Monday under a deck outside a home on Carlisle Highway in Kalamo Township, southwest of Lansing.

He had been shot with a crossbow arrow with a target tip, causing extensive lung damage.

“It has been a very long 24 hours, but we are thrilled to announce that kitty’s status has been upgraded from guarded to excellent,” officials with the Capital Area Humane Society (CAHS) said Wednesday in a post on the group’s Facebook page. “As of this morning, he is purring, eating, and seems to be in very good spirits, which is a huge improvement from the condition he has been in since Monday. We have been in contact with his owner and learned that his name is Booger . . .

Looks like he's going to make it, and live a long and happy life. I know this isn't a big deal here on DU, but some good breaking news in the face of the abject cruelty in the world is welcomed.

Most Dems are more compassionate than cat killers.

That makes it relevant for DU.

After all the years I've been around I still get pissed off when I read about cruelty to animals.

And any cat named Booger already has a couple of strikes against him so I'm really happy to learn he is recovering.

who shoots pet animals, probably other animals, are the same kind of people, such as Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Trump, who don't see a problem with dead students, bystanders, victims. They don't respect feelings and they don't respect lives. This story is a big deal to me, because I am a cat owner, and I hear too many stories about intentional cruelty. My current cats are 100% indoor cats. I used to have indoor/outdoor cats, but after sad experience, I won't ever let a pet run free. Hope Booger is ok.

I can't help connecting their callousness to somebody shooting a cat with an arrow. Commenting on the story about the cat indicates compassion for the animal, and the politicians I mentioned, and their support of arms for everyone, and their recent quotes, don't show compassion, for animals or humans. Although the story is about a cat that was shot and left to die, the death of 9 people in Oregon, and the death of a 9 year old girl, are in my mind, even as my heart hurts over a cat.

I can't compartmentalize those things. As long as there are people who take aim at whatever is there, whether people or pets, we need gun control. We can't legislate compassion or empathy.

On 11 July 1998, two young men working as counselors at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, Arkansas, killed a dog at that Boy Scout camp. One of those young men was 19-year-old Clayton Frady of Texarkana and the other David Huckabee, the youngest son of Arkansas Governor Michael Dale "Mike" Huckabee. David Huckabee was 17 at the time of the slaying, although he would turn 18 less than two weeks later. Both young men were fired over the incident.

This is such a good story to hear in the midst of so many unforgiveable acts against other people and animals, it's a great moment when news arrives that a helpless critter survives a sadistic attack.

Just heard from a rescue last week that they lost their hand-raised bird and a puppy in one week. Was very hard on her.
