James Taylor's mother dies at Martha's Vineyard home

CHILMARK, MASS. >> Gertrude Woodard Taylor, the mother of Grammy-winning singer-songwriter James Taylor, has died.

James Taylor said on his website that his mother died over the weekend surrounded by four generations of family at her home and "overlooking her beloved Stonewall Pond" in Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard. She was 92.

Her daughter Kate Taylor, also a professional musician, told the Vineyard Gazette that their mother died of complications of old age.

I was checking out his kids music on youtube just a week or so ago. Ben and Sally are both musicians. Ben looks a lot like his dad.

So...92, she lived a long good life. RIP Trudy, and condolences to the family.

She was adorable!

Gertrude Woodard (Trudy) Taylor, artist, writer, gardener, traveler, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and more, died in her sleep at home on Saturday, Oct. 10. She was one month shy of her 93rd birthday. Family and friends had surrounded her with love, stories, and song in the days leading to her finally letting go, said her daughter, Kate Taylor, in an email to The Times.

Trudy died from complications related to old age, according to Kate: “She seemed content to drift slowly into that great mystery, and when her time came, she was peaceful, comfortable, and relieved.”
