Almost 300 service employees want a union agreement with a new contractor at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Nebraska Service Center in Lincoln.
They plan to rally in front of the building Tuesday afternoon, the day they wanted negotiations to start. Required to have security clearance, the employees enter data, maintain and coordinate files, perform mail room duties and do other work for the USCIS.
Most work at the USCIS Star building at 850 S, but about 15 work at the Robert V. Denney Federal Building, 100 Centennial Mall North, and nine at the USCIS building at 1301 W. Highland Blvd., according to union officials.
Since May, when they voted to join a bargaining unit under previous contractors, the employees have been represented by Local 808 of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, also known as UE.
