A powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan on Monday, with massive tremors felt across Pakistan and India, leaving dozens dead across the region.
The U.S. Geological Survey put the epicenter near Jarm in Afghanistan's northeast province of Badakhshan, 150 miles from the capital Kabul and at a depth of 132.3 miles.
Pakistani rescue officials said 29 people died in northwestern Pakistan. At least another 100 were injured there, initial reports said.
Twelve girls were killed in a stampede while trying to escape from their school in the north Afghan city of Taloqan while five people were killed in the eastern province of Nangahar, officials said.
Scores of others were injured.
