Sanders campaign: We'll consider Hillary for veep

Source: Politico

By DANIEL STRAUSS

Sen. Bernie Sanders' campaign once again cranked up its rhetoric toward former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by saying she could very well be on Vermont senator's shortlist for vice president once he clinched the Democratic nomination.

In an interview with Bloomberg Politics' John Heilemann, Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver was asked if he thought the Democratic front-runner was a "craven hypocrite" for moving to the left on a number of issues like the Keystone pipeline and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, effectively bringing her closer to the liberal Sanders on the political spectrum.

"A craven hypocrite?" Weaver responded with a grin described in the story as "sly." "That's a little bit harsh, don't you think?"

Weaver then added, "We're willing to give her more credit than Obama did. We're willing to consider her for vice president. We'll give her serious consideration. We'll even interview her."

And as I said at the time, now the numbers are starting to show it. One of the biggest reasons to vote for Bernie, his honesty & ethics, and he gives her a pass on it.

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Referring to Clinton as "Lady MacBeth" is an old rightwing talking point, based on a 1992 article from the far-right American Spectator labeling Clinton a Communist, titled "The Lady MacBeth of Little Rock."

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Oct 28, 2015, 01:28 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.

She, however, declined early to be VP. That's why Obama didn't consider her.... she took her name out of the hat before he could. I don't think she'd accept VP if it was offered.

was that Biden was offered his choice of positions, but Ms.Biden nixed SOS because of the amount of travel that would be involved. She did not want Joe to be away from home that much.

However, what actually happened 8 years ago is not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is what Sanders recently said and what he meant by it. I don't think he was serious at all. "We'll even interview her." Come on.

Probably should have left that sexism card in the discard pile, eh Hillary?

Seriously though, if she is on the ticket it would galvanize Republicans to vote. the best chance Democrats have of keeping the White House and providing coattails for other races is to shuffle her majesty out of this completely.

not ask her. So -- two ways this is distanced - it was not Bernie Sanders and the word used was "considered".

Here, what I think more relevant is that the Bloomberg reporter tried to push the negative characterization of HRC on Bernie's campaign manager -- who rejected it - and then JOKED that they would consider her for VP. (In fact, the slam is reminding people that Obama did not consider HRC as VP .)

That delimits the rest of the statement quite a bit.

What was he going to say next? "Our initial interviews are e-mail questions." ??

Glad my job isn't parsing answers to questions like that LIVE on behalf of a Presidential candidate.

They may have just been jovial, but the remark smacks of condescension. I remember when I was in high school all student organizations were always headed by a boy, and the girl got to be secretary. Things did not improve significantly when I entered the real world. Men in the top spot, women getting more recognition than a few generations ago, but often limited to the second spot. So for the Sanders campaign to condescendingly say they'd consider Hillary for the second spot probably does not communicate well with some women. I know it does not for me: indeed, it may have just pushed me closer to Hillary's camp. And I do NOT currently have a candidate for the primaries, and like both Bernie and Hillary for different reasons.
