Republican presidential campaigns are planning to gather in Washington, D.C., on Sunday evening to plot how to alter their partys messy debate process and how to remove power from the hands of the Republican National Committee.
Not invited to the meeting: Anyone from the RNC, which many candidates have openly criticized in the hours since Wednesdays CNBC debate in Boulder, Colorado a chaotic, disorganized affair that was widely panned by political observers.
On Thursday, many of the campaigns told POLITICO that the RNC, which has taken a greater role in the 2016 debate process than in previous election cycles, had failed to take their concerns into account. It was time, top aides to at least half a dozen of the candidates agreed, to begin discussing among themselves how the next debates should be structured and not leave it up to the RNC and television networks.
The gathering is being organized by advisers to the campaigns of Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Bobby Jindal, and Lindsey Graham, according to multiple sources involved with the planning for the meeting. Others who are expected to attend, organizers say, are representatives for Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Rick Santorum. The planners are also reaching out to other Republican candidates.

(796 posts)Just saw a clip of Ben Carson talking about this. Finally he is animated about something. Too bad he doesn't know what a debate is. What he wants is a beauty pageant format, I guess.

(12,296 posts)They're used to getting a blank slate of time at Faux to blather about whatever insanity is on their minds at the moment, so now they expect that all networks / newspapers will treat them the same. And I do suspect that few, if any, of them have ever been in a formal debate or, like you said, know what a debate is supposed to be.

(23,946 posts)swimmingly well with the first 3....for Democrats....only 10 more to go boys and girls by which time the entire Party will be a puddle of goo.
When actual journalists not given a list of pre-approved questions rightly ask "WTF" about the insane comments of most of the candidates, all hell breaks loose.
Once again Americans are given the chance to contrast the child-friendly Republican side show with the actual adult debates of the Democrags.
"Quality over quantity" is a good motto to live by.

Jeb will be the nominee, as some have been saying all along....this is all for show and for media cashing in on the ratings.

(21,745 posts)Purge the voter rolls, close voting stations in Dem precincts, gerrymander the districts, kill motor voter and automatic registration, fight against mail-in and absentee ballots, enact voter ID restrictions, kill alternate day voting, remove voting machines from urban districts to create hours long lines, make it a crime to assist in voter registration.
And then whine about the unfair "process".
They just succeeded in cutting the debate times. Now they want "friendly questioners" and pre-approved questions that they can review in advance.

(12,655 posts)it is clear that the RNC is trying to pick the winners and losers, and is using the debate format, the kids table debate, and the media to accomplish the task, which is to install jeb! And to get rid of pesky Trump and Carson who will not conform to party pandering and groveling. it's happening on the Democratic side too with Debbie Wasserman Schultz blatant takeover of the debate process and tilting everything to try to get Hillary the nomination. I'm glad to see both sides revolting against this attempt by corporate America to install our next president before the people even get a chance to vote.

(15,380 posts)The thinking of Reince and the GOP mucky-mucks was that their debate formats would help the republicans by making it more difficult for the cray-cray of the candidates to come out and be obvious to voters.
How's that working for ya?
